'These and related questions demonstrate the need for a new experimental and theoretical program to study the fate of carbon in the deep Earth.'
One of these things is not like the other.

not like

I don't comprehend your comment.
It would be easier to just tell me the specifics of your criticism from the get-go.

Concision applied:

'nothing-burger.'
vs
the need for a new experimental and theoretical program

Verbosity applied:

'The authors let[ting?] the air out [of?] their theory, in their own words' call for new and better science whilst you deem it inconsequential.

In your #965 (permalink) you wrote, ' So far he ( Freeman Dyson ) has validated deep, hot biotic oil...'
Which I presume was predicated upon the NATURE Geoscience piece.
Nothing was proven. Nothing validated. Their molecules were gone in a geologic instant.
They openly admit that reality was not represented in the research.
Throwing more time and money at the issue seems like the definition of insanity.
Inorganic carbon is represented in less than one-percent of carbon. Why throw good money after bad?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiber_Oil_Field

The Tiber Oil Field is a deepwater offshore oil field located in the Keathley Canyon block 102 of the United States sector of the Gulf of Mexico. The deepwater field (defined as water depth 1,300 to 5,000 feet (400 to 1,520 m),[2]) was discovered in September 2009 and it is operated by BP. Described as a "giant" find, it is estimated to contain 4 to 6 billion barrels (640×106 to 950×106 m3) of oil in place.[3][4] Although BP states it is too early to be sure of the size – a "huge" field is usually considered to contain 250 million barrels (40×106 m3).[3] It required the drilling of a 10,685 m (35,056 ft) deep well under 1,260 m (4,130 ft) of water, making it one of the deepest wells ever drilled at the time of discovery.[5][6][7]

Some additional info.

10 kilometers or deeper could be the magic zone in which oil forms. (originates)
Where everything comes together (chemical components, heat, pressure and time) before percolating towards the surface.

Are you ever going to tell us at what depth the actual formation discovery was made?

No one thought oil existed that deep in the 1980s was because no one could drill that deep.
As technology allows oil companies to go deeper and deeper we keep finding oil. Funny how that works.
We still don't know how deep it was.

I never implied that I was in possession of any specific’s.

Why don’t you ask BP…???

I’m sure they wouldn’t mind sharing their trade secrets with you that they spent billions of dollars for.

Better yet, just bore your own well hole to disprove it.

Easy Peezy…

Right…???

Lol…

You were obviously in possession of something which empowered your dismissal of a 8km - 10km oil window.
We don't know that the casing wasn't perforated at 8-km or less.
They could have easily drilled into the asthenosphere. The crust in the vicinity ranges from only 6-km-to-27 km in thickness!
The oil strata dates from 23- million, to 66-million years in age.

The 'leave it in the ground' folks have the upper hand -- at this time in this location.

If you go to Youtube and search on results?search_query=climate+change, the tide seems to be turning against a runaway greenhouse.

Insight into BP's Tiber well

If the link works, an one scrolls down the page, you'll run into some insightful information with respect to the 'caveats' of the Tiber well.
It supports the 'oil window', which no one appears to know anything about.
I can make a lot of 'word salad' about it, but I've learned my lesson about that.
