With the examples given, they are only visible for limited times due to the Sun's glare. Those would be known unknowns.

The interstellar travelers would be unknown unknowns.

After seeing the last SpaceX launch, I'm confident humanity is on a good technological trajectory to handle asteroids in the future.

Nasa is still suffering from their hard held position of 100% success 100% of the time (unless it blows up [called an " anomaly" in the trade]) Musk isn't afraid to spectacularly fail publicly. He also gets paid handsomely for milestones

It astonishes me how so many have the opinion that Musk is a greedy dullard. In one forum, someone commented "I'm surprised Musk hasn't drowned in the shower already". Other say he's not an engineer, but a crafty marketer. His only success was being a child of an emerald mine owner.

I consider having eleven children a success.

I must suppose that you've cut yourself off from all reliable, bona-fide information sources which might have informed your worldview.

Through all it's prior excursions, Earth's climate has never entered a runaway greenhouse. But that's not at all necessary for our extinction.

The new factoids for me:
  • The climate equator is 10 degrees North of the geographical equator.
  • The Nothern hemisphere is 1.4 degrees (prolly Celsius) warmer than the Southern.
Conclusion: There will be more ice-free real estate in Antartica.

Not too long ago, he was advocating for the detonation of enough atom bombs, such that radioactive 'fall-up' would shade us, and cool us.

As to Earth's prior excursions, nothing existed like modern man, and his fossil-fuel economy.

I'd never heard of the guy.

I was surprised by the 'cold blob'. I'd thought the threat was from the Beaufort Gyre.

Welp, there it is.

Washington Post : We’ve been accidentally cooling the planet — and it’s about to stop
Quote:
It is widely accepted that humans have been heating up the planet for over a century by burning coal, oil and gas. Earth has already warmed by almost 1.2 degrees Celsius (2.2 degrees Fahrenheit) since preindustrial times, and the planet is poised to race past the hoped-for limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming.

But fewer people know that burning fossil fuels doesn’t just cause global warming - it also causes global cooling. It is one of the great ironies of climate change that air pollution, which has killed tens of millions, has also curbed some of the worst effects of a warming planet.

Tiny particles from the combustion of coal, oil and gas can reflect sunlight and spur the formation of clouds, shading the planet from the sun’s rays. Since the 1980s, those particles have offset between 40 and 80 percent of the warming caused by greenhouse gases.

And now, as society cleans up pollution, that cooling effect is waning. New regulations have cut the amount of sulfur aerosols from global shipping traffic across the oceans; China, fighting its own air pollution problem, has slashed sulfur pollution dramatically in the last decade.
