If you build pressurized water reactors, then they don't blow up.
Chernobyl and fukmeshima were boiling water reactors.
The 3 mile island non disaster was a pressurized water reactor, note the anticlimactic ending.
Also 3 mile island wouldn't have melted down had the emergency cooling pumps not been illegally locked out "for maintenance" and procedures have changed so that if a reactor runs a way, orders now say to cool it down fast as possible and if that cracks the reactor core so be it. A cracked core sucks but not nearly as bad as even a minor melt down. The reactor is done either way.

Stupid/useless government spiked molten salt reactor tech in favor of nuclear weapons proliferation tech.

It's not too late. We're just now getting the need for a nuclear option that can survive launch to low Earth orbit.

That's where the heavy industry needs to be. Corvettes will rain from the sky, like the beginning of Heavy Metal [the movie].

Well it looks like china has 55 coal fired power plants under construction for 2022, so they never even slowed down building them.
So my response to:

Surely saying it's a bridge to solar is a joke and I just didn't get it because the government didn't issue me a sense of humor in basic training.
China was on track to open a few dozen coal fired plants in 2019.
Yeah by the time that happens I will be driving what ever made tesla obsolete or be dead and voting democrat.
My god that aged well.

Half of that is inevitable though. Half-truths get full credit these days.

Seems like they lead the world in renewable energy production and electric car sales.
As an 'under-developed' nation, they and India are perfectly allowed to do coal under all UN agreements, ratified 100% by all member states.
Once they achieve per-capita parity with the industrialized world they'll be held to a different standard.
If the USA so chooses, they can on-shore all the industry they off-shored, beginning under Republican President Clinton, and bring 54- coal power plants-worth of air pollution back to the USA, and at Union scale.
Perhaps that will please everyone.

China is always going to be an under developed nation if gives them a free pass to build dozens of coal fired power plants every year.
More jobs here sounds good. Let's do that.
