What confuses the matter more is there are vastly differing levels of maintained... as you put well maintained. I wouldn't consider a road off-road if I can do 50mph in a stock sedan. But that is my personal opinion

The access road on Bonneville Salt Flats is a single row of orange traffic cones with 6-8 'lanes' worth of cars moving at freeway speeds on either side.
My favorite 'off-road'.

The survey would be self-reported, so the definition of off-road would be up to the individual. People would probably hold "off-roading" as an ideal, and therefore be inclined to report that they had gone off-road when perhaps it was just a gravel road.
To that end, I posted a video saying I went off-roading in the Prius when I maxed out the traction and clearance heading to a trail-head that all reviewers say requires a high clearance vehicle and 4-wheel drive. When I got to the top, the only other vehicle was a jacked up truck with mud tires and a winch. One Youtuber commented that I was clearly on a road, and I agreed, so I changed the title.

If Jeeps are out there If vehicles are out there, I consider that off-road.

That seems like a rather confining definition of off-road. Places Jeeps can get to.
I didn't see any Jeeps, but here's a not-Kubelwagen. It was all aluminum, even the fenders. Neither the Type 82 Kubelwagen nor the Type 181 (Trekker/Thing/Safari) had the recessed spare tire or the suicide two-doors.
It would run away and hide from a Jeep in sand dunes or on The Salt. It would literally disappear in a mirage. Bonneville is like another planet.

Must of been trying to think about 2 things at once when I wrote that, or simply not thinking.

Looks like something I'd have done in my teens or early 20's... who am I kidding, I'd probably do it now if someone even hinted at how cool it would be to try.
My buddy that I trust most to belay me while rock climbing often gets right/left reversed, and I've even made turns opposite of his instructions before knowing his propensity to make that error. This is one place that clear communication from the spotter is crucial.
Reminds me of the time when I was a kid helping my dad back up, and I yelled "slow" increasingly louder until my dad backed into something. For some reason, in a panic, I just repeated the thing I had been saying rather than communicate clearly.
Speaking of clear communication, I've really been enjoying Fireside Chats with Prager recently. While I don't agree on some topics which I hold strongly held positions, I can respect a person that is well intentioned, has given sufficient rational thought to the topic, and communicates clearly.

My battery died while on a date. I asked her to steer while I push-started. She started going for the curb, but instead of steering, she bent my key 45°, so my car was stuck on a curb and my key was bent. Someone pull-started me, I drove to AutoZone, and I bought a new battery, but for some reason I felt that it was necessary to park across the street. I carried the battery in one hand and held her hand with my other hand. Then she stopped me, still holding the battery, in the middle of the street, and kissed me.
Was that what I got for dating an eighteen-year-old? That seemed too young for me. I was twenty-one or twenty-two.
