The same thing can be done with diesels with intake fumigation you can run them off both LPG and diesel while being able to still run off diesel alone.
I would love any links to more info you have on this subject. I have been trying to research dual-fuel systems with methane injection into diesel engines, as methane is much easier to produce off-grid than vegetable oil. Specifically I've been looking for DIY how-to info sites.

Doing some initial searching I foundthis link to be pretty informative

I think your idea sounds fun but its not really a money making business.

I too have toyed with the idea of dropping in a diesel in place of my 63 thunderbird's 390. However I would keep all the original parts so I could undo the mod later.

sounds like fun

This could work, and work for the restored hot rod guys as well. Wedging in a turbo 24v Cummins into a '63 Dart could be quite a show piece, as well as extremely fast - in a straight line. Plenty of beefing up of the unit-body and probably a roll cage to stiffen the whole wobbly affair would help.

Imagine. An easy 1000 ft-lbs in that little Dart blowing a smoke screen of black smoke as it simultaneously smokes the tires.

I'm not being sarcastic. There are plenty of hot rodders that like this stuff.

A guy I work with had a dyno proven 500+ hp Mustang Cobra. Was thoroughly stomped at the strip by a giant Dodge Cummins 4wd truck. By the 1/8 mile he had to back off because he couldn't see due to the smoke from the diesel. It was that quick!

The propane and nitrous section on dieselplace dot com has a lot of info on this for 6.5T engines.
You can also use water methanol injection to increase power and fuel economy, but in the high compression IDI 6.5T you need to keep the methanol very watered down.

A chevy diesel with a mechanical fuel injection system (DB2 serries) has the potential to be a alternative fuels power house.
You can slightly modify the fuel system with a better fuel pump and cheaper easier to replace fuel filters so you can burn waste oil by cutting them in with your fuel.
You could add a propane or natural gas fumigation system.
Or run water methanol injection.

I tried propane back in 2006-2007 and don't care for it.
I am gearing up to do a water methanol injection build.

I just picked up a 1969 mercury marquis 2 door. 429 2bbl. dirt cheap.mint condition. im going to do some playing with it and see what kind of milage i can get out of the 10.5:1 compression v8 in this land barge. just for fun. but the ultimate fate of it will be dropping in the N/A 7.3 idi i have sitting on the shop floor. C6 auto behind it.

It has been a long time dream of mine to make a diesel powered collector/vintage car. Probably since i sold a fan belt to the guy with the diesel powered corvette! LOL

the intension is not some crazy HP black smoke bla bla bla diesel monster. (I have enough of those) But to build a stock looking super clean classic car that gets above 30 mpg. and to see the expression on peoples face when they look under the hood and hear it start up.

Yea. VW diesel swaps are very cool.
Since some punk in his 1/2 ton chevy wasnt paying attention and rear ended me at a light doing 60km/h in my 85 turbo diesel jetta. Absolutely destroying the car and injuring me. i have alot of time and a smashed turbo diesel that i bought back from the insurance company.

Love the 1.6L Love BAJA bugs. this could become a serious project for me.

the 1.6 td I have intercooled, done pump mods to it, timing advance, ARP head studs thicker head gasket,(lower compression) and running 23psi of boost. Would be the perfect swap engine.

on summer diesel and summer tires it would get 47mpg us.
on winter diesel and snow tires it got 43mpg us.
thats hard driving thru the mountains around here. (kelowna to vancouver)
120km/h bursts up to 140km/h
proven once a week (1000km) for 8 months

I am a diesel mechanic by trade. I have run GM diesels over the last 30 years. Back in the early 80s I stuck a 4.3l Olds v-8 diesel in a 68 Vista-cruiser. It was a huge car and got 25 mpg even with a non-overdrive th-400. I drove this for several years. I put together an 84 GMC crew cab on a Suburban frame with all 1-ton running gear. I am running a 2000 6.5 with a db-2 pump, a bullet proof 700-r4 and 4.56 gears. I tow a 10,000 lb 3 axle trailer from Oregon to Seattle every year. The truck gets 17 mpg empty and about 10 towing. I have no plans of ever replacing this truck- it does exactly what I want.

I would love to hear more if you ever do the 7.3L swap.
Do you know if it needs modifications to bolt in?
