Make sure you coast down test that thing. I made a similar one and failed. Increased drag.

I saw in your fuel log that you thought the larger tires ended up hurting your mileage, but didn't see any mention of adjusting your distances to compensate for the larger size. Have you made any adjustment?

Dirtydave - I plan to do so when it happens. You should too, when you, you know *cough* step up your aero game

2000mc - Yes. All figures have been adjusted for my larger tires. I'm now sure that the decrease came from taking my muffler off.

Edit: I want to clarify. I use the new tire height divided by the old tire height, both at new tread.

24.3/23.4 = 1.0385. This times my odometer mileage gives me my accurate approximate!

As the tires wear, I'll measure and drop the percentages.

Been a while since I posted anything. Been busy with life and school and what not.

It was warm today (upper 50's - low 60's), so me and my brother were able to do some aero mods to the ZX2.

Got my rear wheel well covers on

I obviously care little for looks LOL. I ran out of spray paint, which is why the red is shining through in places. At least I got the white words covered up!

Me and my brother took it for a ride to town and back to see how it would do. The car got up to speed quicker with less throttle and stayed at speed with less throttle. Coasting was much better, as I gained some speed going down small hills where I lost a little speed before. I got 38.6 heading to town and this coming back

Which is a new trip record for the Ecoscort

I will be doing more testing as time permits. So far so good!

I achieved my best tank average in over 5 months today! I got 43.28 mpg, 466.89 miles on 10.787 gallons of fuel

I would like to take a few moments and express my gratitude for everybody that has posted here, messaged me and blazed the Ecomodder trail before me. It is because of y'all that I continue to be resilient, to endure the ridicule and strive for better mpg. Having several learning difficulties that make me prone to easily lose motivation, Ecomodder's kindness and near impeccable advice have helped me do something well and keep on doing it.

All of y'all are awesome

Congrats on the improvements!

I'm seeing a few people posting better numbers lately. Spring temps are helping everyone (in the northern hemisphere).

MetroMPG - Yes sir, they are! It feels good to have 45 mpg trips once again!

Have you heard anything from COZX2 recently? I was looking over his page over at Fuelly... Wow, I was in disbelief. Over 100 mpg with no boat tail!

Xist - Of course! They made what I am doing possible

DirtyDave - Thanks bud!

This tank is going well. It should (prayers and fingers crossed!) surpass 44.

On the way home from school today, I found out first hand the effects of humidity on the Zetec engine. On 70-85% pulses that would usually result in pinging, I could not detect any today. Usually I can hear the tell-tell rattling. So I am now thinking water injection might be beneficial in the future.

Anyone know if you can use WI on NA engines? Any experience?

My new vapor canister purge valve is on the way. This may help my FE, as it can cause a rich condition. If not, the P0446 code will go away for good.

Also, the IAC valve is acting up AGAIN. I've lost 50-100 mpg off my instantaneous coasting mpg, which renders P&G moot. It is an expensive part, so I plan on cleaning it as TeamZX2 prescribes and go from there.

All in all, I'm happy with all the progress happening

I know there are plenty of kits around for high performance engines. Snow performance is one brand. I've heard about people using washer fluid in a jug too. Hook a vacuum source to the top of a jar, use another tube with a fish tank bubbler on the end to the top as well, fill half way with washer fluid. As the engine pull vacuum on the jar, air is pulled through the air stone/bubbler creating a fine mist that is inhaled by the engine.

Problem with DIY is that it's hard to control and doesn't inject as much while in low vacuum situations. Systems with a pump and injector nozzles hooked into the intake tube are safer and more consistent.
