2007 Fusion with blown engine in Page, AZ for $500
The one picture of the car looks nice. I cannot imagine that anyone here knows anybody that could take advantage of this. I lived there and I don't! I towed my Civic from Page to Show Low, I am not eager to do that with a car with a ruined engine, but I am sure that someone in Flagstaff could sell it for parts, for example.
I am sure that cars require engine swaps do not qualify for this thread, but I am unsure that it merits a dedicated one: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...3959548834817/

The HCH finally sold. I saw a Focus ZX this morning, but it is gone now.
My brother lost my car keys. I finally found them at the end of the block.
Can anyone explain what they were doing there?
I couldn't find my magnet on an extendable handle. I wanted to drag that around the neighborhood. I ended up taking one of my innumerable Harbor Freight lights and a safe wienie roaster, but I saw my keys my second time up the street.
I tried to get my brother to help me look, but I could barely drag him up the hill once.
I don't know that he even looked. All that mattered to him was getting in the house and taking care of the laundry.
Since it is a chip key I would need to get the car to the dealership 127 miles away to get a new one. Uhaul would charge over $300, but I couldn't find a truck and dolly tomorrow or Thursday.
The only tolerable car for sale on Marketplace, Craigslist, or OfferUp is this pathetic thing: 2001 Hyundai accent - $850, manual with 164,000 miles.
I will call Fiddly Honda in Flagstaff the first thing in the morning and see what it would take to get a new key cut. Ninety dollars and two hours of driving each way?
Programming keys is supposed to be hard. Right! - You must complete steps 1–6 within 4 seconds of the previous step to keep the system from exiting the programming mode.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Press the “Lock” or “Unlock” button on one of the
transmitters. (An unprogrammed transmitter can be
used for this step.)
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 [three] more times using the
same transmitter used in step 2. [Make sure the power door locks cycle the fourth time to confirm that the system is in programming mode.]
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) to exit the
programming mode.

Of course, I don't have a transmitter. I don't really want one, either. I cannot try to save money by buying a transmitter and coding the key myself.
Once I finally have a good key I may have Ace cut a spare just in case the keys are locked inside.
Maybe I would just put it with my current key so I can unlock the driver's door.
Unlocking the driver's door would be great!
Edit: The last comment in that thread says "[T]he instructions I posted are to program the REMOTE part of the key, not the immobilizer chip."

This for your ‘99 accord?
There are little boards on eBay that you can solder in to disable the immobilizer. Or you can get aftermarket keys with chips in them copied to match the chip in your current key. And there are other ways of doing it.
If the power locks work, a fob could be a work around for your drivers door lock. I’ll let ya know if the $12 one I ordered works....

Yes.
I want a new key because mine doesn't work in the driver's door anymore. I had a better key, but I lost it. I keep hoping that it is hiding in the deep recesses of the garage, but I cannot get Mom to go through all of her stuff. I decided that I am going to make a pile of boxes with old papers and shove them under her bed when she leaves the house. If they don't fit then I can move some of the piles of boxes in her room and hide the boxes from the garage underneath.
Fiddly Honda says it would be $132.48 for a new key. I paid $250 for the car!

Many part stores can make & program chip keys as well as locksmiths, but the issue is it takes a while for the timer to allow the new rfid number to get accepted as anti theft measure. I think O'Reilly does it. Locksmiths can make new keys from key numbers on the old original key.
I suggest some kapton painted in flourescent colors for a flag for those hide a key events.

I cannot find many locksmiths in my area, but the website of one advertises:
Quote:
Transponder & Chip Keys
We clone and cut keys by code. Don't be caught without a backup key. It pays to be prepared.
|
I called and he said that he didn't have any blanks left, but ALR in Pinetop had a larger selection. I thought "Why didn't I call them in the first place?!"
It looks like he said A-Alarm; they said they had the blank, but they would charge $95, extra to program it, and they couldn't cut a new key from the VIN, they would just use their vast experience and training to extrapolate how the key should look.
How do Honda keys work anyway? Is this a 7-digit binary sequence? Can they just tell a machine "Beep boop boop beep boop beep boop" and it cuts the keys, instead of tracing the existing key and cutting wide?

Tell Honda you don't want a chip key, just a backup to get in the door. Then disable the immobilizer- the easiest way is by securing the chip key to (or in) the steering column so it's always there. Now take your now fully working non-chip key to the hardware store and get a cheap backup made.

How much less appealing is the 1998-2002 Accord to thieves than the 1997? I cannot help but think that a crackhead would think that Mid-Life Crisis Fighter would be the perfect car for whatever crackheads do with stolen cars.
Good news! I know where to get an invisible GPS tracking device!
[how hard would it to be to get an OBD-II splitter and hide the Y and the tracker inside the dash, with the other end mounted where the port goes?]
The 1997 Accord is the second-most-stolen car of 2020.
The 2000 Civic is #1, but apparently crackheads see Chorizo and say "Some assembly required?! Forget it!"

2007 Saturn Aura sedan with 117,000 miles, bad AC, windshield, and front windows in Show Low for $1,500
The bumper is attached with duct tape and I am unsure that the glove box closes. It is perfect! :P

I use Facebook Messenger throughout the day. Facebook is always giving me Marketplace notifications--usually not telling me what someone just posted, just giving me a red 1, but I click on it and see the same junk as the last 9 times. Also, Marketplace is now as spammy as OfferUp. I keep seeing 2005s for $1,200. I report the fake dealerships posting, but nothing happens. I try to block the spammer, but it gives me an error. If I report the post it lets me hide and block, but I still see them.
It looks like Craigslist is the best place right now, although more people post cars for sale on Facebook Marketplace, at least in my area.
On Craigslist you just get lifted Rams when you search for Prii.
