It looks like the magical VX lean burn engine has been swapped out.

Yup that's just a VX shell with a swapped motor. It may have the VX trans still, but that's the same as a CX so no big deal. The 7 extra "White" wheels it comes with might be factory VX alloys which are kinda neat, maybe ask is he'll sell those separate if they are. Though the spare brass shift knob sounds like a real dealmaker haha. Brass? Seriously?

You could always ask if he has the factory lean burn 1.5L and ECU sitting in his back yard. I wouldn't buy the car but he'd probably sell the original motor for scrap if he didn't know what it was. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed. And if he went to the lengths to swap an 1992-1995 EX or Si engine into it (D16z6) then he probably also got rid of the VX/CX tall geared 3.25 final drive tranny too. I'll bet it has the 4.25 final drive EX/Si transmission instead. Unfortunately those ain't the VX wheels either.

Also, the frame is damaged in front of where the AC radiator should be. It's pretty badly bent there... why?

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

1993 civic vx unmodified - $1500 (Homer ny)
this is a decent 93 civic vx. it runs and drives. starts up and idles properly every time. recent tune up including new distributor, wires, plugs, injectors, etc to make it run smooth and get 60mpg. brakes work, lights work, should pass inspection without issue. new rear brakes, extra set of wheels. (oem vx wheels and steelies with moon caps)
cons; ebrake is not adjusted properly, needs a new clutch soon, rust of course.

A trans is minimum 750 for a used one. Plus labor (350-400).
Doubt it has proper spark plugs. (60$).
Probably needs valve adjustment. (150$).
Needs oil change(20$).
Interior needs cleaning (swear equity).
Probably has no under engine panels (65$ for aluminum one from Scott, 200 for stock ones).
Needs steering wheel (70$).
Tires(450).
Battery condition? (2,000).

No license plate, tags expired? Could be a possible 374$ registration back fees if it's expired. That 950$ quickly turned into a 3,000$ one.

VX: "should pass inspection without issue"

Says the guy whose VX is shown prevented from rolling out of his driveway by a wheel chock. A couple of parking brake cables should fix that.

Gotta love the moon eye wheel discs though! Ecomodder at heart.

2001 Swift 1.3L, 5-speed, $1250

This one has caught my eye:

EPA: 31 city / 38 hwy / 34 combined
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find....n=sbs&id=15724

- 138,000 km / 86k miles
- has had annual oil treatments (anti-rust spray)
- almost new winter tires on rims
- 2 other sets of wheels/summer tires ("mags")

---

I've been in touch with the seller, who's retired. He says the underneath is perfect (rust-wise) and it's mechanically A-1. I'm going to go look at it tomorrow or Sat if it's still available.

He says he's selling because he's got too many cars and he doesn't use it much. Sounds like a vaguely familiar problem.

It's over an hour away, which violates my beater radius rule, but this one might be slightly better than the average $1200 beater if everything he says is true.

This would become the Firefly's permanent winter beater stunt double. Plus I could use its body parts to do more radical (ie. non-reversible) mods that could be moved back and forth between the cars, like: modding the front & rear bumper shape, welding on the hatchback for a more robust Kammback, etc.
