And with oil hovering around $30 a barrel for a while now, it's looking like too little too late. Sure, cost of fuel will eventually climb, but I think that is going to be a while.
It's kind of like trying to sell an ice maker to an Eskimo. It is pretty and all that and maybe will do as claimed, but as things are now it is not much needed and won't be
needed for a good long while. (even if outrageous claims of global warming were true)
Yeah, I'm a skeptic, so what? It's 19° F here today... nothin better to do than boondogle bash.

I would agree except that oil is an increasingly volatile commodity.
Reality is we are going to run into a hard stop soon, all the wash tubs and swimming pools are filling up with oil, soon we won't have storage, at that point oil becomes unsellable, there will be a crash a bunch of BS and rapid price fluctuations.
Meaning our low price today could become $0.59 tomorrow and $6 the next day because we are going to end up with a lot of production vanishing for about a year minimum when the stuff starts to flow on the ground and suppliers have to cap due to storage constraints.

Syracuse will see a record high 60F next Wed. And el nino has cut my snowfall to less than half of the previous average this year. Thankfully the record numbers of tornadoes seen nowadays are still generally unable to push past Ohio into NY, so for now, a couple degrees of warming has improved my local climate.

But people never think that way. Cheap now means "screw those tiny cars, I want a Peterbilt SUV."

Improved in your opinion. Some people who like winter, live somewhere in order to snowmobile, snowshoe, *insert winter time outdoor activity here* may completely disagree.
We've actually got a ton of snow this winter. It's just 50+ degrees between storms and all melts away.

About those deposits...
"We have no revenues, are currently in debt, and expect significant increases in costs and expenses to forestall revenues for the foreseeable future," states the filing. "Even if we are able to successfully develop the Elio, there can be no assurance that we will be commercially successful. If we are to ever achieve profitability, we must have a successful commercial introduction and acceptance of the Elio, which may not occur."
...no final design, no working production facility and competition from alternative energy vehicles and more efficient gas-powered vehicles.
Elio tells SEC it has lost $53M so far

Yup, that kind of describes a boondoggle.

It's a startup. Product is in development.
At this point it's all expenses and no revenues.
Of course they're in debt.
That's only a bad thing if dollars are the only thing one considers.
Elio's business plan is based on producing hundreds of thousands of vehicles annually. Building them dozens, hundreds or even low thousands, would force the price up to where only the well-heeled could afford one.
Elio said long ago, it's "Go big or go home".
Yeah, they might need to just go home one day, if they don't succeed. But the only way for the project to succeed is to "go big" - and that means laying out many millions before they start seeing money coming in.

OH! I see my problem now- lacking patience in so many years! From Elio on Facebook today:
Innovation takes time. And that’s the way it should be. In the age of instant gratification, patience is a vanishing virtue. But what if the great innovators throughout the course of history became impatient and equated a delay with failure? Famed scientist Louis Pasteur is quoted as saying “Let me tell you the secret that has led to my goal. My strength lies solely in my tenacity.”
