Oh, wow! I hope they don't decide to sue us even though we had ours first, because I can't afford lawyers.

Neil: thanks for the pics! The ones taken from above are artistic as well as informative.

I got this response from Facebook.
Quote:
Hey Robert, we'll answer the questions that we can! It will weight about 1250 pounds. It will be able to be flat towed. The coefficient of drag is within the low to mid .2 range. That's all of the answers we can give right now.
|
I would say 1,250lbs is exceptional for 55hp. That's like my car having 84hp, which would be quite the improvement. 700lbs less weight, far smaller frontal area, acceptable aerodynamics. I can see how 84mpg highway would be realistic.
It sounds like it would be fun to drive from those specs. You could really throw it around corners, and mountain passes wouldn't be terrible. It should be a pleasant departure from the "beasts" the reservation holders are used to driving.

$55 out of $200 million raised. Production pushed back to the end of 2015. Elio only has access to the plant for 30 months (2016) before the owner tears it down for scrap or IRG finds another tenant.
Anyone else annoyed they are talking about fancy cylinder coatings and designing a completely new engine, when they have no realistic path forward to production? I think they should have stuck with the "off the shelf" approach.

No annoyed exactly, but it sure will complicate the job of actually producing the vehicle.
The simplicity of going with an off-the-shelf engine for now would be a very good idea IMO.
Seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot.

Going with their own design may have a lot to do with hitting that magical $6800 price point.

Going with off the shelf would help a lot with hitting a ship date.
