Even a simple bicycle helmet wouldn't be a bad idea in one of these or in a regular car since last time I checked something like 7 out of 10 vehicle wrecks that sent some one to the hospital involved some kind of head injury.

Helmets are bad for whiplash and other neck injuries though?

As are head impacts to hard surfaces. Based on my nephew I'd take my chances with whiplash.

HANS is only needed for racing conditions, inside a car.

Fishy in what way? Buying paid ads on Google, especially with what are called "brand terms" (company names and such) is very common.

If we have a full body cast of a shock absorbing material .. that the driver is encased in .. than you just use tongue controls for the drive by wire user interface.

To be fair, there have historically been a lot of innovations that were only needed for racing conditions at one point which have found their way into modern vehicles.
That said, even in my subcompact car I feel safe enough with a seatbelt and airbags.
On any kind of motorcycle or trike, I wouldn't feel safe on public roads regardless of how I am strapped in. It's an irrational fear that I've had ever since I was 8 or 9 and witnessed a guy and his wife fly through the air off a bike when they T-boned a car that didn't see them coming and pulled out of a side street.

Poking around that forum, I came across this post:
"Don't lose sight of the final prize. Hang in there. It's tough to change the complexion of the automotive industry, that has a history of over 100 years, overnight."
I can't help but think that in 5 years, when Elio has long since gone bankrupt with no cars delivered, some of those people will need therapy to get over it. It's almost like a religion.
Edit: Good lord--there are multiple threads by people concerned about the resale value of their non-existent Elios.
Edit again: And several peoples' signatures list the options/features of a vehicle they don't own because it hasn't been built.

People inside a normal car die at normal speeds while people racing at over 100mph crash into a concrete wall and walk away.
So obviously all you need is normal seat belts and air bags they will save you (as proven by they 30,000 or so people a year that die in car crashes).
