Hello. New here with a 13' Prius C
Hello Everyone,
Picked up my 13' Prius C new January 2014. It's my first hybrid. Still trying to figure out how to maximize the mpg's.
I traded my 12' Camaro SS. I really hardly drove it due to the poor gas mileage it got, not trying to put mileage on it to keep the resale value up (or so i thought) and it being a black car here in Florida is a bad idea. I love black but it is the hardest color to keep clean. The Prius is white so it's much easier to keep clean and i bought this car to drive and don't care much about how many miles i will put on it. I will drive it until the wheels fall off
Also i don't speed and i would just cruise and do the speed limit but the car would attract the wrong attention from people who would always try to have me race them or speed. It got pretty annoying. It's nice to just drive in the right lane, do the speed limit and blend in with the other cars on the road.
I'm on Prius chat but was glad to find this forum. Much more info here for me to absorb. Looking forward to learning how to max mpg's. Thanks!!!

Congrats on the Prius purchase!! Hopefully you didn't take too much of a hit when selling the SS. You will certainly save a lot on gas with this wonder of technology!!
Do you find that you are more relaxed when you arrive at your destination since switching to the Prius from the beast?

I didn't take too much of a hit trading. I had quite a bit of custom parts on the car. (exhaust, body kit, etc) so i took the parts off before trading and sold most of the parts. Have a couple things left to sell. I did pretty good considering using it as a trade vs selling it private party. Besides i didn't have to wait around for the right buyer which could of taken quite a bit of time.
The only thing i miss about the Camaro was the rush of HP but HP isn't everything and i hated filling the tank with premium fuel. Yes i'm much more relaxed driving the Prius C. It's nice to drive and get 50+ mpg and fill the tank every 11-14 days for less than 1/2 of what it used to cost me in the Camaro.
I would ride my bike to work to save on fuel because it was better than my Camaro or my S-10 P/U but the Prius C is way more fuel efficient than the bike if you can believe that. Riding a bike to work every day gets old LOL! Especially if the forecast calls for rain or partial showers.

I replaced the rush of horsepower feeling by upgrading the sound system & it isn't such a bad tradeoff. (More power in the trunk than under the hood now!!)The stereo actually makes me drive a bit smarter/slower, so I can squeeze 1 or 2 more songs in before I arrive at the destination.
And yes, it is amazing that modern cars can easily best most motorcycles in the MPG department. What I remember most for my cycling days in the 80's was how much difference having a passenger made. I would average about 53 riding solo & it would drop to 38-40 with a passenger.

Welcome to the forum. If I was in the market for a new car the C would be my choice. In the few instances where my wife and I have traded in a car, we first went to Car Max and got a cash offer on her trade. The we went to the dealership and negotiated for our best price. On her Rogue with 32k miles and still under warranty we got $14.3k trade in. Car Max had offered us 14. We bought the car for $19.1k brand new off the lot in January of 09 when times were looking bad and the dealership was willing to negotiate a deal that was close to $4500 off sticker.
We wrote a check for the car, and it worked out to less than a lease for the 3 years she owned it.
She even had an accident and the Rogue had $3k in repairs but no damage that deterred the trade in offers.
If we weren't happy with the deal we walked away and let them sweat the sale for awhile.
regards

Well my bike has a 1700cc motor and it's supposed to get 38 mpg according to Yamaha but i usually get 32 mpg due to some of the mods i have and i probably need to adjust my power commander.
Yea i went to Car Max and the most they would give me was $23,000.00 cash offer. Black book online for the dealers wanted to give me $20,000.00 guaranteed trade in. I ended up trading to the Toyota dealer and got $26,000.00 + i sold a bunch of stuff off my car and brought the total to about $29,000.00 which isn't bad considering i paid $32,000.00 for it 18 months prior to getting the C and traded it with 24,000 miles. I even ended up getting money off the Prius C which was sweet.

I'll get a chance to ride my bike today, a $650 2004 GZ250 Suzuki with 3300 miles (when purchased). I'm hoping to hit 90MPG this summer but might not quite get there if I refuse to slow down, which on my routes means getting jacked by alot more of the normal 4-6 of 46 traffic lights.
regards

I bought my bike in 07 as a left over and now has over 43,000 trouble free miles. Now that i'm learning to get max mpg's out of the Prius C i might try some on the bike but it's fun to twist the throttle in some sweet sweeping turns
46 traffic lights? Man that's gotta hurt. I can take 2 ways to work in Orlando on Tuesdays. One is Hwy 50 and probably has 40+ lights to and from work but the other route is Florida turn pike with 0 lights but 3 tolls each way. I've tried the Hwy 50 before but it takes too much time and i'm not saving much money trying to avoid the tolls on the turn pike. It comes down to which is the lesser of the 2 evils.

Welcome to the forum!
The Prius C is a rolling video game that makes it fun to drive for economy. Congrats on the purchase.
Any plans to modify and bump it up a little more?

Performance wise i'm not doing anything. I will get some window visors. Upgrade the stereo with Navigation. Mabye some better wheels because the stock wheels are pretty bland. Definetly a scan gauge but other than that not much. I want to keep it pretty much stock. I've already installed a XM radio, Viper alarm and put my blend mount Escort 9500ix radar on the rear view mirror. Car came with tinted windows and carpeted mats.
