Hexxus - 1997 Honda Civic HX
This will also serve as a bit of re-introduction.
I joined this forum before with the intent of pulling whatever I could out of my old Grand Marquis and F150...but other plans and ideas prevented me from ecomodding them to any extent. Working over-the-road on freight trains allowed me to halve my amount of driving, and carpooling cut that down to about one-quarter of my original mileage. Seeing 25mpg in the Marquis and 18-20mpg in the truck did not both me.
Last May I bought my first house and my options for work now include daily driving from York, PA into Harrisburg; about 33 miles one way. The Marquis is tucked away for winter and the truck squeaks 16mpg with the snow ballast and winter gas. It was time to find something better for year-round commuting.
That brought me back here and I just so happened to find a car that fit the bill nicely, a 1997 Honda Civic HX; previously belonging to PAFirefighter11.
It's a little rough around the edges, but that's just fine for me.
I'm hoping come warmer weather to really get into the ecomodding and hypermiling more. Already running 200 miles with about 5/8th of a tank left, mostly highway driving from Flourtown to York; played with some EOC where I could. I'm really looking forward to this and hope to keep this around for a good while.

Congrats on the purchase.
It looks lowered, and with an air dam too -- first ecomods already done by the previous owner?
Mind saying what it cost you?

PAFirefighter11 is a member here and posted several threads about the car. Might not be kosher to advertise the price they settled on...
Had it listed for $3k:

PAFirefighter had done the duct tape grille block. I believe the coilovers and lower lip were from the owner previous to him.

Great meeting you, Scott. Enjoy it!
Yep, the coil overs had been done by the prior owner. Rides a bit rough but helps keep that FE up. The grille block was just duct tape to test for any FE improvements. I did see some, so the next step was going to be either fiberglass or lexan blocks. The tape actually didn't bother me too much, though, since it matches the car fairly well and worked!
Definitely keep updating here. I'm looking forward to seeing you get better FE than I did. You downloaded the fuel app, right? The last fill mileage was at 155,993 for your records btw.

Thank you again Rick!
The tape doesn't bother me, just wanting something more permanent. I did download FuelLog, but gonna be waiting for the weather to clear up some before I really start to drive it. Much more comfortable in the truck when it comes to snow and ice.
Currently debating on whether to spring for a ScanGauge II or go with an UltraGauge...decisions decisions. I would really like to get the ball rolling on this, I think it'll be fun tinkering around with it.

I run an UltraGauge for everything but gas mileage and I run a MpGuino for mileage. Ultragauge and ScanGauge are not accurate with leanburn technology but MpGuino measures actual fuel flow the others don't. MpGuino is cheaper too.
Oh, I drive a 1998 Civic HX and a 2000 Metro.

It's kind of odd that Honda didn't include a factory fuel economy gauge in this car, considering its mission.

I would go with the Ultragauge. Pretty sure it'll show you lean burn. Watch the second O2 sensor, when it drops to 0v or close to it, you're in lean burn (this is how my Insight is, and I'm pretty sure I read that it works with the HX from when I was searching for it).
