Total saved vs. EPA in this car since February (when I bought it)- $895.77. In January and February I saved $49.48 vs. EPA in the Albatross, so I'm up $945.25 since my fill up on 9 Jan 14. Costs- well, I had to buy a car. Choosing an efficient one wasn't a cost, as such. I sent out my UltraGauge to get the software update and spent maybe $20-$25 on parts for a kill switch that I haven't done up yet.
So I'm up $900 on the year, but little to none of that was related to my expenses. I bought an iPod this year because my car has an adapter for it and now I am in so much of a better mood while driving because of it. Pathetic, really. I'll be listing that $130 as a modding cost next year even though I listen to music on it when I'm not in the car, too.

I improved my s-10 from 27 to 36, to that's 1/3. Thus if my annual fuel budget was $1000 before, then the modifications more than paying for themselves is easy to see.

Lol, i guess if buying an ipod makes you drive less aggressively, then I guess it's okay to count it as an ecomodding expense.

I'm always amazed on how s-10 drivers get huge mpg gains with very little mods.

Not sure how much I saved this year. I've been kinda lazy keeping records, and even reporting my fills until this fall. I do know that it's quite a bit as I drive way more than I want to. 80,000 km years are normal for me right now. I'm aiming for 50mpg lifetime average, then we'll see how summer goes.

Currently have a lifetime of 55.6 mpg in my crx which came to $197.81 over EPA.
But what I have been doing to see how much money I'm saving is I'm counting how many mpg's I'm over my last car (civic) which was 35.6 mpg lifetime and that makes me $261.75 over my civic.
My initial plan for my CRX was have the gas savings put me into the +++ but I've put a lot of money into the car for things like registration, smog, battery/alt, ignition, muffler, and other miscellaneous things. Having an Excel spreadsheet for this helped tremendously.
As of now I'm 1133.26 in the negative in '14 (except for one '15 tank) for a fun driving car/project that keeps me entertained in my down time

According to my fuel log, I have used 176.36 US gallons to travel 7,721 miles, and spent $388.47. I have saved 57.6 gallons over EPA and $153.79. The EPA says that I should be driving fifteen thousand miles a year--I have had my car and kept the log for fifteen months! Apparently, I drove 6,176.8 miles last year! I need to drive more?
At the same time, for better or worse, I own the Forester, too, and that is rated 21 MPG. I more than doubled that fuel economy, thanks to this site! It would have cost me $647.89 last year.
Of course, I failed to sell Bacon to pay for Chorizo, so other choices are costing me far more than I have saved...

Changing cars 6 months ago has already saved me around $800 in gas. At this rate I'll need about a year more to break even, not counting lower maintenance costs of the new vehicle.
Most mods will probably not break even for several years, but it's as much a hobby as anything else and keeps me from buying expensive computer parts, or going out.
