I agree, except in my experience, logic tends to play no part in police observations. they tend to get tunnel vision and what they want to see is what they see.

Arragonis, I ordered one of the higher quality MUVIs to experiment with. It may go to my son if I don't like it.
Post back observations - it may be a good replacement for my Mini 80s.

I am not a lawyer but I have defended myself succesfuly in traffic court on several occasions. what you might want to do is contact the prosicuters office and ask for disclosure of the evidence that the state plans to use against you. Just to see if they have anything to go on. you may find that they have nothing that would convince a judge... I once won; with the defence that the facts don't match the charge.

Sucks about what happened.

I'd be inclined to fight it though.

^^ Lots of respect for acknowledging it was probably preventable. Most post-collision drivers egos won't let them admit that. ("It was beyond my control. There was nothing I could do. I didn't see the other car. Etc.")

There are very few true "accidents". Lots of preventable collisions though.

+1
Speaking from experience, most "accidents" can be avoided by situational awareness. ALWAYS watch the traffic around you.
And ALWAYS watch the idiot behind you on the on-ramp. (I usually almost lose sight of them on the ramp and they pass me a few miles later, but there are occasional exceptions.) Use your mirrors (if you haven't deleted them).

Just to let you know it is not illegal to record cops and it is not an invasion of privacy. What they can get you on is a wiretapping/eves dropping charge BUT that is only in 12 states that require all party consent.

The 12 states are:
California
Connecticut
Florida
Illinois
Maryland
Massachusetts
Michigan
Montana
Nevada
New Hampshire
Pennsylvania
Washington

A quick bodyshop update for y'all: $135!!!! I couldn't believe it. By the look of it, I was sure the two door panels were gefickt, but it turns out the shredded rubber from his tire that dragged along the side of my car blended with the black color effectively enough to look like body damage. The unusually honest body shop that fixed the car cleaned off the rubber and buffed the doors back to sparkling. As the guy sideswiped me, the wheel actually grated only along the length of the plastic bumper guard that runs the length of the doors. It was pretty chewed up, but selflessly gave it's all protecting the sheet metal as it was supposed to do. So... bumper strip replaced, rubber removed, paint buffed out and waxed. Good as new.

And I am telling the revenue generators to **** off and I signed up for my day in court. I think I can reasonably explain to a judge that my LRR overinflated tires are noisy backing out of the garage, much less coasting around a 90+ degree turn at the end of an off ramp. Hopefully the judge is eco minded and buys my story...

Mifunego -

That is news I like to hear. I was expecting a much bigger bill, but $135 and NO body damage is double plus good.
