The energy needed to build a new fuel efficient car is way less than the energy you're using to drive your chevy. You could also buy a used compact car and fix that up if you're really worried about the energy used in building it, but I have a feeling you don't really care. And if you don't, why say that you do? I don't give two ****s about pollution and if anyone asks I won't BS about why I don't. Don't hide behind some BS about a new car taking more energy to make than your chevy will use in fuel, just say you don't care.

I suppose that I am not going to answer your question, as I wont argue it. What I will argue is that if I owned a business and traded my own stocks on the knowledge of what would happen in the future of the business, it would be insider trading. If I buy into businesses and then affect change in legislation, its okay.
On another note, I was having a needs vs wants discussion with my students on future car ownership. If the average person were to drive 15k miles per year, at a cost of $3/gallon, the difference in cost of ownership just on fuel between 15 and 20 mpg would be $750. 30mpg, $1500. The crazy thing is that you would use 1000, 750, and 500 gallons, respectively. If VW were to get there 1L concept to market, even at a conservative 150mpg, 100 gallons of fuel would net you a savings of $2700. To say the least, I think they get what I am saying, now if they can just apply that thinking to change car culture a few people at a time.

That's what I'd have said, but everyone knows that already.

I don't know about who wrote the bill but I've even talked to cops that have tanks on their cars and don't use em, much less power running propane.
Good add on for diesel engines though, for more power.

I believe we have an AZ member with a dual-fuel Tempo. IIRC he uses the propane and he likes it. I would ask him about it before calling Al Gore.

Good for emissions, but on cars being driven a sensible distance, it's way over the top as the investment is high and the return rather low.
It works on larger trucks doing lots of miles though.

Ooooooooh, I was on fuel and stuff.
Let's talk about Rumsfeld, Rice, Cheney, the Bushes, etc. and their "private" business dealings and how profitable govt actions were to them too, as that could get interesting, don't you think?

This thread is veering way off topic, getting personal, and (gasp!) verging on the political!
So let's move on, or something. Go do some deep breathing. Or drinking, if you consider breathing to be maybe too hippyish/Birkenstockish.
