I've got a great idea: a safety recall to install kill switches in every car out there. No more unintended acceleration deaths.

We get OE designed and manufactured kill switches, and the bad drivers get to explain that not only could they not find the brake pedal or the shifter, they couldn't find the kill switch either. It sure beats a floor mat recall.

What is that orange toggle switch down on the floor next to your cup holder?

I had a little fun with mine. Still trying to get my hands on a normally closed momentary switch, but this is how mine will be mounted. The thumb will be to kill it and the trigger will be ignition. For now I have it on a rocker switch in the center console, nothing special. I love having a kill switch. I have improved 3mpg!

Wouldn't it be better for us with INJ fuses to install an elongated fuse>switch to the panel, not splicing into the harness?

Late to the party*.... 2000 Insight kill switch. Momentary button & hose clamps

Falls perfectly beneath my thumb. Er. Go. Nomic!

The GREAT/AWESOME/AMAZING thing about the Insight is: to restart the engine, all you have to do is shift back into gear (or tap the gas pedal... or deplete the brake vacuum reservoir...). The quiet, high voltage motor spins the engine to life in the blink of an eye. Very slick.

(* So late that the car is conditionally sold at the moment.)

I wonder if that would be true of any car with the stop/start function?

Wait, really?

I wonder if it would work on non-hybrid cars with stop/start..

Really! See here.

First image is before the handle bar finish wrap.
It has been awhile but if I remember right- My Momentary (trigger finger) is normally closed (not very robust mechanical switch) and when button fails it sometimes opens the circuit and car won't restart. The toggle override switch, behind the shift console, bypasses this momentary circuit until I can replace or fix the button switch behavior.
