good idea...

going to get some of these for the project.

if they are too wide I'll narrow the cent front section of the hood a bit...

then I'll make my own lexan covers...

Maybe I'm feeding you old news, but.... you've got 13" H wheels on it now, which I believe are alloys. The only wheel options for XTs (due to the odd 4x140mm bolt pattern) are 14" or 15" inch Peugeot 504/505 wheels or you can swap hubs from an XT6 which used a standard 5 lug pattern. The Peugeot wheels may be lighter and then you could moon dish them, or just leave the wheels alone.

An older Subaru 1.6 EA71 engine will swap in with little trouble to the existing 5 speed, trouble is that engine only came with a carburetor. On the plus side, they are known for being even more reliable and easier to work on than the OHC EA82 you have (no timing belts) It may be possible to swap the single port fuel injection from your XT onto one, it's something I'd want to do if I ever got another Brat. They are also extremely frugal. If you want to get really serious you could always think about getting a more modern EJ18 in there,

I'd love to get a wedge'y XT one day. I'm not sure if it's possible to make them any more aerodynamic then they already are though! Sorry if I'm rambling, I just got excited about seeing an old Subaru!

all XTs are multiport.

but yes I have considered an the EJ18 and the 22
the 22 can be had as obdII and I could run a scan gauge.

thanks for getting excited about my Xt makes me happy!

yes high 30's (maybe low 40s hwy) with out the kill switch and stuff

I wonder if vortex generators would have an effect? truth is I wil probablty try them cuae they are cool looking and I want to be thorough.
I currently drive an 87 subaru, the carbed.
the xt should have dual runner intake, although you mention high 30s, is it carbed?
singular injection gets to high 30s with CAI, (non rubbered and stiffer intake hose)
either way, all models from that generation need EGR removed, it is psychotic. Then the self-cleaning continues, fuel stays very stable.
plug the heads and all the ports they had for it.

I'd like a fourth version from that generation, the xt motor is it. if the top end has the oem xt "hot rod" stuff. My locale beat those to death, then blamed the car. It is like that.
excellent ecomodder, the 3 mains attempting to be a japanese lightweight, its hilarious, not even japan could keep it a ninny ricer. Legends are legends after all..

yeah it's multiport...

you can swap your carb for the single port stuff. that would help you alot.

Sae

Subaru published the entire aerodynamic development of the XT and presented the work at SAE.
I have the paper as part of a SAE book "Recent Developments in Aerodynamics"from the 1980s.
Everything on your car has been carefully massaged to minimize drag while maintaining the "styling" cues of the designers.
They began at Cd 0.088 and as the basic form became more and more like the XT,it's drag continued to grow.
The wind tunnel smoke trace over the car will reveal the flow separation at the backlight header as you might imagine. From here back would be a good place for you to put your time and energy.Everything ahead of there has been painstakingly optimized ( nose, grille, fenders, wheel arches,A-pillars,windows,mirrors,wheel flaps,wheel-covers,door handles, etc.)
I'll bring the Paper data for next time or you may be able to find it online.

here's what i started this evening,.

these driving lights look a whole lot like my TXR3 game car.

time to work on the lexan covers I think... then I'll enclose the area in the old pop-up area and look for good usable oem headlight

the assembly without the motors has to be a good 8-10 pounds a side!

you any good with fiberglass? You could make a fiberglass bucket that fits in that area, then mount the lexan to it, that wouldmake it so there's not a hole there with a headlight in it.

no I am not but it's a good time to learn,...

that's the plan... I could use the old headlight bucket (liner?) as a guide.

was thinking of using some old doors (covers)for frames for the lexan.
it will be as aero as with the headlights down all the time!
