Carlos, I went with what was provided. Perhaps the car was not so level in the original photo, or the roof has changed between different years, I have no idea.
I did a zoom in detail, looks pretty much to where I spotted it the first time. Keep in mind, that when you move the HP back as with the yellow car drawing (not a photo, right?) the area above the rear deck lid will rise, not be lowered.
I think this would be best if we just took all spoilers off, they are confusing the issue because clearly the yellow car's spoiler is a different type and higher.

EDIT: The white car is closer to a true elevation photo. The dark blue one was taken to high and throws things off.

Last year when I was in afghanistan I searched high and low for tuft test info and could not find anything on a 3rd gen.

It was more a request than a search.

This is all moot because the yellow one is right. Never limit yourself to the provided photos when there are blueprints available!

Agreed.
The yellow Firebird is from a factory brochure and at less of an angle that the photo posted earlier which has distortion.

Sven, I don't have the car or the engine yet
I have a line on the engine and was dreaming about what would hold it (750 Lbs) and use it (130 Hp, 240 ft/lb torque, stock).
I have a truck so a light truck was out, and the 3rd gens are slick. Even with the hatch down, getting below .3 is nice.

The yellow car is some form of "artwork", not a drawing and not a photo but an artist composition mixing both.
However it is more accurate than photos posted which have been over, under and at angles to what we want; an elevation profile of the roof.
In the end, moving the template zero point +6" or aft 6" has little effect on this car. With the apparent rear end changes between the two models posing a far greater change.

I wanted to try a truft test some time, but when ever I think I have time to do it I have insane winds kick up, like yesterday.
What speed should I test at?

I do think there is an implication that the "factory spoiler" on the yellow Firebird had an MPG component to it. This also makes sense for the 1980's MPG/aero era.
The yellow Firebird is from Tirerack. Here is how I do it :
http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post218155
I like Tirerack because I think it minimizes perspective distortion and encourages the picture to have a horizontal wheel-to-wheel relationship.
PS - The center of roof camber is always important. I made that mistake when I made the template "meet the end" of my mini wagon :
When the center of roof camber is obeyed, you see the end of my wagon "breaks the template" :

Thank you for posting those two versions. If a tire is about 24" dia., then I estimate it moved about a full 12 inches between the two. The various Camaro/Firebird templates were less, maybe half of that difference, or around 6 inches.
Still, it proves without a doubt the importance of proper placement on the roof high-point.
I had a similar experience when first trying to figure out how to use the template. It is a bit counterintuitive to say the least.

Aw, wind is no good. Anything over 30mph should give accurate results though. I'd do 50 to be safe. Just to test the hatch just get a passenger to turn around and film the window- no extra film car needed!
