Mowed entire lawn - used ZERO gasoline!
Swhew!
Just got done mowing the lawn.
Didn't use a drop of gasoline.
My yard is small compared to most in my area. It takes about an hour, mowing most of it with a riding lawn mower, and then doing a little quick trimming with a push mower.
I mowed all the main part with my partly restored GE Elec-Trak (only running on three 12v batts) and then grabbed my corded Lawn Boy electric push mower (bought used at a junkyard) to trim by the culvert, around a couple of trees, and the one part that I missed, and didn't notice until the ElecTrak was all put to bed for the night.
Most of us think about fuel economy in our cars, but air pollution and noise pollution from yard equipment can be just as bad!
EVs rule!

I haven't mowed my yard since November 2008. I got rid of the last of my grass May last year and got rid of the mower and weedeater the following month. My yard is now mostly either food producing plants, native plants, or mulch.
This type of landscaping is becoming increasingly popular here in Florida and is very much encouraged by the local governments.

I wish my neighbors were so enlightened. Actually, my next door neighbors' yards are ~90% grass, while mine is 40% grass and 60% other plants. My dad says I should apply herbicide. What are my other options?

My electric lawn mower thread is at: BENS ELECTRAK
Why anyone would ever want to put herbicide on a lawn is beyond me!
I do have long-term plans to expand the garden a bit, that should be a little less lawn to mow.
Perhaps some sort of ornamental garden/sitting area would be another good use of space with more plants and less grass.

We have to many dandolines to have the Reel mower work in part of our yard so for the first time this year I busted out the gas mower, used it on the parts that it worked best on, trimmed up the edges with hedge sheers and got the back yard with the reel mower, at least the part of the back yard that has grass, half of our back yard is now garden, including 100 or so little lettuce plants that came up out of the compost that we spread around.
Maybe this summer I'll build an electric push mower, I have all the parts including some Lithium batteries for it.

Hey! They have emissions! It's just that those emissions fertilize the lawn!

Walk around barefoot in that lawn for a while, then come back and tell us there's no emissions.
