It would be good for someone to take an un-fixed metro chassis and make some measurements of the suspension points so that a "broken" one could be repaired to the correct specs, given the lack of repair parts.

Yeah like take a metro in good shape, make a plaster cast around both control arm mounts and create a bending form to create a piece that fits about that whole area and welds to more "stable ground" further back and further up from the rusty death zone.

That as well as just having the measurements available so that one could repair a chassis which has already had the damage and the mounts have shifted.

Well in that case, CoyoteX already has that down right here. He knows what he's doing, and he's shared it. I just figure it'd be good to have something preventative for dummies like me who aren't experienced at welding and don't want to screw it up even more.

True prevention would probably involve oiling or greasing the snot outta that area before it rots out.

Indeed I agree but in the case where I bought my XFi, the damage had already been done. It would've saved that car from the crusher. It inspired me to build the CRXfi, which is more awesome, but one car had to pay the ultimate price for my inexperience. She didn't have to die!

Frank's absolutely right.
It's a shame we experienced owners let these cars rot. Mullet's car was sound when he got it. Not pointing fingers - I'm just as guilty. The ForkenSwift was mostly sound where it matters when we started the project, but is much less so now. I oiled it (half-heartedly) a few times, but mostly ignored it. And now the passenger side control arm area is probably cracked. Salvageable of course, but also entirely preventable.
The Flea on the other hand has gotten much better anti-corrosion care. (A case of ignoring the crappy car and looking after the good one.)

And Will: I'm glad she died. The CRXfi is way more awesomer.

btw if anyone is willing to drive here I am willing to fix any metro that needs welded up. I even have a car lift now
No charge except for diesel if I have to come get you with a trailer in case you don't make it. I have lots of scrap metal and junk laying around to use for patch metal. Zip code is 25628 in case anyone needs to see how far away I am.
Or I guess we could do the geopalooza thing and set up a repair shop at the event this year as well
