You understand correctly except for the filter part. Stock filter is still in place. I only removed the resonating chamber at the front just behind the headlight to make room for the tubing. It had no filtering capability.

The resonating chamber in my civic has a large filter at the bottom, which appears to be bypassed in your photo. That's the one I'm wondering about, or is there another one?

The chamber has no filter that I can see, and is welded shut. The intake tube has two small stacks that project into it, and the main tube is completely open to the underhood area in the stock configuration. I don't see how that chamber could filter anything.
Maybe your year of Civic was a bit different?

Installed a timer in the trunk to control an interior warmer (900 watt). It's a good timer if you can find one that works... I ended up buying 4 to get 2 that work! Problems at the factory getting the LCD display connected to the rest of the circuit board.
Now I have some warmth for the first bit of commute when the engine won't put out any heat. We've had unseasonably warm weather of late, but it won't last. Then I'll be really happy I put this together.
Drivers side front bearing on the way out. Must get fixed asap. Loud rumble.

You mean for a 120v heater?
Define "unseasonably warm". It's chilly here again lately (-20 overnight). That probably counts as a heat wave in Winterpeg.

Yes it's a 120V heater, just the regular type you can get from Canadian Tire. I don't like it to run any longer than it has to as it sucks up so much power.
That would normally be considered nice weather for this time of year for sure. We've been hovering around freezing for more than a week. Very unusual. T-shirt weather for sure. Now we've gotten soft. We're going back to normal temps starting tonight so it's going to feel much colder than it should. Actually I'll take -10 over zero. The humidity soaks the cold right in on a cloudy barely freezing day with a breeze.
Just got the bearing replaced. What a difference! The winter tires make more road noise than summer tires so I didn't notice the warning signs until the bearing was pretty nasty. Glad it's done.
Since I had to get it worked on by a shop I removed the front wheel covers, side skirts and air dam. Now I need to go outside and put it all back on before the mercury really shrinks. -4C and falling down to -18C tonight with a monster wind 40 gusting 60km/hr. Man I need a garage!
PS: -29 by Saturday!

I often wonder why my ancestors chose this spot to settle. What were they thinking? You CAN get used to anything it seems.

The other day it was so busy at the bakery that I spent an hour at the front counter. When the line moved sufficiently slowly, I was able to learn that they were from exotic places like Alberta and Winniepeg.
I hope that all of our customers do not suddenly migrate.
