3 years, with a newborn son. I'm rebuilding my wife's car in the yard in my spare time.
I built 2 Civic's and 3 Eclipses from parts in the driveway at our old place, put a 10" lift and 44 inch tires (mounted by hand) on a friend's Bronc, then gutted two popup campers to make trailers and had a yard sale after building a U-Haul box truck into a camper with as many of the parts as we needed to do so.
She's cool with it, because it makes me happy. As far as I'm concerned, if I couldn't do what made me happy, I wouldn't have married her. Apparently, many Americans don't feel the same... they feel that they should have to compromise for some reason, and give up things they like to do because their "partner" doesn't approve of them.

I use Honda MTF (which I think is basically 5w30, but I can't verify it.)
or Synchromesh. I don't use "specialty" or "vanity" oils for anything, like AMSOIL or Redline or Royal Purple. I've tried each, and never found a good reason to keep paying the prices for them.

id like to try the designer brand too, but the price always makes me cringe
i found this for a tutorial
(is it missing anything?
Manual transmission oil change on CRX.
also id like to describe the transmission whine in more detail
(as i watched a few videos and they dont sound alike)
its more like a soft high pitched beeeeep
very similiar to the hearing tests they made you take in elementary
(raise your right hand, etc)
only happens in gear and not for very long

I'm fairly certain that's a 3/8" drive ratchet.
Figure out how much your transmission takes, and remove the speed sensor from the tranny, just use a funnel and dump it in there - it's ALOT easier. You'll find the speed sensor on the back of the tranny, just to the left of the engine, where the speedo cable goes in, to the right of the rear mount.
Does the noise happen in gear while accelerating? Is it a faint whine? Are there any grinds in any of the gears, upshifting or downshifting?
Does it only happen when you're accelerating, decelerating?
(In case you didn't notice, I need more information... or some video.)

why do you have to remove the speed sensor?
its pretty faint
i hear it mostly in gear when accelerating, maybe 5-10 sec and then itll go away
doesnt happen ALL the time either
no grinds

You don't HAVE TO remove the speed sensor, it's just easier to fill the tranny from there, if you already know how much your tranny takes.
If you don't know how much, you can just do it the other way, and fill it up until it starts coming back out of the hole.
I'm still not sure what that noise would be... does it only happen in 1st gear while accelerating? Is it sort of like the noise when you go faster than normal in reverse?
EDIT: Look at the throttle body... do you see a brass screw at the top, recessed into the housing of the TB? It's a slot screw, you can see it from the passenger side of the car as you're facing toward the driver's side, and it's on the "front" of the throttle body. If you can see it, you might need to replace it. Sometimes, people screw them in too far, and then they start to whine at certain throttle angles. The screw is like.. $2.00??, and might be the fix to your problem.
Basically, its' sealed from the factory. If you can see that it's a brass screw, rather than a gray epoxy plug, you might need to replace it.

i guess you didnt read the site
no matter, it said 2 qts and provided 2 drain plugs (drain and fill)
(thats why i asked about the speed sensor)
the noise happens at all gears
it doesnt sound like a "bad" sound
im just checking as my car has 280k miles

I read it, I was just suggesting that you do it the other way because it's easier. You'll see once you get under there, it's not so easy unless you have a siphon pump or a squeezer bottle and a hose.
If it sounds like the reverse noise, once you change your fluid, it will probably go away. You probably should change the fluid before you drive too much further, though, you may be low on fluid. Check/replace the axle seals, shift lever seal before changing your fluid. None of them are entirely difficult to change, but you'll be mad if you spend good money on Synchromesh and it ends up in the parking lot at wally world.
So, to recap - the easiest way to fill the transmission back up is to remove the 10mm bolt that holds in the speed sensor/speedo cable, then fill with a funnel.
If you're not comfortable doing this, or if you have a siphon pump, you can always do it the "right" way.
