So you (or that cafe's customers over time) pay for the 'free' WiFi by ordering food that you may not have wanted right then, or could have gotten more cheaply elsewhere if you'd just kept on down the highway. TANSTAAFL, even if the cost isn't up front and in plain sight :-)

That free WiFi must cost the shop loads to have. Not like that they already had a wireless router and just made a public access point on it or such.

But even if it does cost them, people will seek out stops that offer WiFi and just drive by if it doesn't have it.

The free charging does come at a cost to the shop that offers it, but it literally binds their customers to them for a while.

Well, the lunch wasn't free, even if the WiFi was.

Commercial establishments have difficulty charging for access because the payment mechanism increases the cost of providing the service by orders of magnitude. At least that's how it was back then.

So it becomes part of the amenities.

Sure, just like the cost of chairs & tables, and the lights. All those costs have to be covered by the price of the meal, which means it costs a good bit more than if you're just bought food at the supermarket. None of it's 'free', even though you don't get an itemized bill.

How much is that in mills? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mill_(currency)

The WiFi, not the tables and lights.

Um, this thread is about the Nissan Leaf, folks.

We should be seeing something - possibly the Leaf 2.0 on January 5th.

Our 2015 Leaf S has over 26,000 miles and no discernible battery capacity loss. We are nursing the stock Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 tires along, by having Nokian Hakka R2 winter tires. The stock Ecopia tires are the lowest RR tires I have ever driven on - when they have shallow tread, anyway.

26k miles on your 2015? Is it always driving or charging to get that many miles? Definitely more impressive that you haven't noticed any capacity loss with doing what must be pretty deep discharges than someone only using a tiny portion of the battery.

The lease is what is limiting us; far more than the battery range. If you do the math, it is 36,000 / 1,095 = ~32.8 miles / day. With 1 charge per day, we can typically drive 3X that.

I had to do a spreadsheet to figure out what the daily use can be to get the car to come out with <36,000 at the end of the lease; which is October 2017. The Leaf is now only about 50 miles over, so we will not have to pay any penalty.

We are planning to return the Leaf at the end of the lease - for several reasons. The main one is that the Bolt EV (and possibly the new Leaf?) will be out, and we will definitely go for a longer range EV.

The second is that my family is not very comfortable in the Leaf - because the rear seat is not comfortable, because the seat is quite low to the floor. So, your knees are high up close to your faces, and this is not good for longer rides (say >30 minutes) even if your knees are okay. My spouse has bad knees, and my son is 6'-6"+ so this greatly limits all four of us being in the Leaf.
