Saw a Gen 1 Insight in Ohio, last Friday. Red, looked good, happily zipping along.

Spotted a Mercedes benz C class today. Not exactly an eco car, but with a cd of .23-.24, it's more aerodynamic than a Prius. Nice looking car, it has a sedan fastback almost like the pictures i've seen of the EV1. Plenty of side taper. The side slots behind the rear wheels gave it away.

I don't know about you, but when I see things like a manual transmission:

Factory passenger side mirror delete:

I tend to think base model eco-car, or maybe a Civic VX. Not a '78 BMW 7 series??

I could have sworn I read on this forum at some point about a high FE model BMW from the 70s or 80s - is that what this thing is?

Nah, it was the 528E gas model as well as diesels. Lincoln Continental Mark 6 or 7 had a BMW diesel engine.

I wouldn't expect to see a manual in a 7-series anyway...

I have seen a Brinks van with a front grille block (static, not variable-opening). Worth to note that back here they use 4-cyl turbodiesels and only manual transmissions...

It's not so easy to spot a 3rd-gen Nissan Sentra back here...

But this one impressed me for its unusual condition for a 20-year old car.

This one was kinda beaten up, but still not really that bad...

A VW Voyage with the earliest front clip

This VW Parati resembles a little more the U.S.-spec Fox...

Iraq-spec VW Passat LSE, made in Brazil using the older MD-270 engine instead of the EA-827, and a 3+E fuel-saver transmission.

An earlier Passat with the '78-'82 front clip.

An "Iraq spec" VW! Really?!

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

I know, cash-transit vans may not be the most efficiency-oriented vehicles around, but this one may caught some attention...

Volkswagen in the 80s had some export programs based in Brazil to Latin America, Africa and Middle East, and also to a few places in Southeast Asia such as Indonesia and Philippines. But regarding the Iraq-spec Passat, the Iraqi government paid for the cars with crude oil, which was then sold by Volkswagen to Petrobras, and after a decrease in the price of oil less cars were shipped to Iraq, so Volkswagen decided to release them in the local market. In spite of some fears about a local market rejection for 4-door cars in the 80s, the Iraq-spec Passat was praised for its beefier driveline, improved engine cooling and comfort.
