Finally eclipsed over 60MPG! Looks like I ran 62.88mpg for the last 134 miles.

I also shared my thread over at Honda-Tech this morning as well, in case those guys are interested.

Link to my fuel log is here.

Thanks for eco-tuning in!

I'm convinced Honda-tech is just filled with spam posts and fake accounts to keep the site profitable for advertising. It use to be the second largest community on the web but it feels like its propped up with hollow walls and few active users.

I find this site thoroughly more interactive with actual automotive minded individuals.

Chrysler Kid, I mainly made the H-T thread to help spread some news about the "Eco-modding" community among current Honda enthusiasts. The Honda scene, IMO, is really sad. It's all but dried up. I used to see modded Honda's on every intersection. Now, even the ricers are hard to spot (which, I suppose, could be viewed as progress). I think it's dried up because it's all been done before...all these little engine mods to bring about horsepower...then there was (most recently) the Hellaflush craze...now what? I even see people talking about retro (90's) builds. Like, "bringing back" the Black Widow kits, and what-not. Calling them "period correct" mods. Jesus, come soon.

But, ECO-tuning, now THERE'S a new frontier for Honda-heads. It's also practical

Amen, brother! I just ran 515 miles on a tank (thank you, guido! ) that's worth doing and sharing. I'll fill up after work tonight and update my fuel log!

Seems like HT is just a few Honda dorks with bad attitudes (trolls) anymore. I agree.

How's the guido pod coming along? Pics?

Thanks,
Victor

Nice on the mileage! Wow! How many gallons is the EX tank?

I haven't worked a single lick more on the pod since my last post, ha!

I MAY get to it tonight. But, it's not likely. I've got 3 slices of pizza, some Shock Top Apple in the fridge, and 1.5 hours left of "Bloodsport" on Netflix.

ha! Love corny 80's movies.

Wow. I'm wiring up a couple furnaces, beer sounds good right now (but I need this to work when I'm done)

I think it's about 11 gallons or so. I've got her to take 10.75 once IIRC

The sixth gen Civics have 11.9 gallon tanks. But after about 10 or 10.5 the fuel system struggles to keep pressure. After EOC, you'll find a stalling tendency that you can resolve by priming the electric fuel pump by keying off/on once.

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

thanks! so that would make the guido input 11900, right? (sorry OG)

Yup, I ran 515.4 miles on 10.533 gallons - not my best mpg's, but definitely my farthest tank yet! The best part was not having to put gas at all from sunday night until friday afternon, and skipping my wednesday fill up!

Update 10/8/2014: MPGuino wiring and Custom Housing; Part Two

Work has been busy of late, but I have made some great progress on the MPGuino wiring and housing.

I’ll let the pics do much of the talking.

Still a bit to go, but almost there!

A BIG thanks to member Ecky who sold me this MPGuino. Great guy and answered, ohhh…about 50 questions (accurate stat) I had on small-board electronics/power/wiring/etc…

MPGuino Pics/Progress:

Custom Housing Progress: (Re-Designed Box Shape)

New box-type design gives the needed room inside for screen install and wires

Fiberglass was then applied (no pics of that sorry), and then a thick layer of BondoGlass was added to build up the form and structural strength.

Once that dried, it was then sanded to shape:

Then Bondo was applied, then sanded to the finished shape:

Final fitment of the screen, another Bondo layer or two, then prime/paint work can start.

As you can see, after some deliberating, I opted to cut the dual pod in half, as I was having visibility issues to the lower pod (vacuum gauge) after switching to the revised boxed-in shape.

To connect the two pods, I would have had to cut them apart and then “stretched” the pods a good 2.5” apart and fiber-glassed in the stretch. I was afraid that the shape would have become distorted post-stretch, and that it would have turned out a hot mess. So, I’ll just mount them separately on the pillar. However, I don’t think it will be a big deal.

I think I’ll add a layer of “hammered” paint just prior to final color/top coat on the MPGuino pod, to give it a similar texture to that of the existing grain texture on the vacuum gauge pod and the OEM pillar.

That’s it for now. Be back soon with more progress.

Thanks for eco-tuning in!

Looks great so far. Where will the buttons for controlling it go?

Thank you sir. I am still in deliberation on this. Current options:

A) in between the two pods on the pillar (that 2.5" of space I was talking about)

B) the blank panel to the left of the steering wheel, where the power mirror button would go on vehicles equipped with such.
