Hello -

I seem to recall a fellow who did this with industrial strength velcro. I think he did this to a gun-metal VW Jetta. He blacked-out the coroplast wheel cover. He said it worked like a charm. However, I haven't seen him posting in a longgggggg time, so I don't know how long it lasted.

Bingo.

Plus, moonie snugs into the inner ridge of the rim lip, so when the car hits a pothole, shock travels from lip to moonie edge, not so much via velcro. Velcro mainly keeps moonie from coming off the wheel laterally.

...now, someone just needs to make & sell such a setup for 16" rims (such as on our Pontiac Vibes) and I'm "sold"!

On that case you can push it out from inside the wheel. Of course it depends how big brakes you have so do you have any room to do that :/. On most cases there is plenty of room.

Same locking mechanism than in normal ziptie so it holds 22 kg per tie.

Or did you meant that can the tie brake on its own?

If you use good 300x4.8mm tie no problems on that. Cheap ties can even brake in to peaces when you try to tighten them.

No, I was wondering about the effects of the rotational forces and vibration on the latching mechanism .

Cutting off the loose ends is probably safer than having the end of the zip-tie flapping about in the wind.

Yes you have to cut the loose ends off. That was just a testing assembly. Rim was not even on a car yet . After two weeks I can reveal what will it look when car is ready for race.
