The answer is no, cost is irrelevant to fuel mileage. Alcohol is a fuel and should be accounted for.

There is a difference between economy and efficiency. My car is economical. I really don't care about modifying my car with ugly spoilers and wheel covers. I drive in such a way that I don't waste any fuel, but don't attempt to "save" any either (by coasting in neutral to a stop or any of this other crap).

All fuel should be accounted for in MPG calcs. That's the purpose of the garage (the part that ranks by fuel consumption), and how everyone expects it to be used.

That's a perfectly valid opinion, but why misrepresent your consumption with a bunch of specious data? It undermines the rest of the garage data, and makes it useless for its intended purpose as a vehicle comparison. Was that your intent?

You could report both numbers - MPG (purchased) and MPG (consumed), using the "details" field.
So the question is, which number goes on the chart?
If someone else (your employer?) pays for your fuel, should you report infinite MPG? No.
If you fill your car from a gas can you find on the side of the road, should you report infinite MPG because you didn't pay for it? No.
I think the chart should be for fuel that your car consumes, regardless of where it comes from or who paid for it.

What Part of MILES-PER-GALLON do you fail to understand?
Nothing to do with the method of acquiring the gallon, just how far the car can travel on average for each gallon in the tank.
The act of not attempting to "save" in and of itself constitutes "waste".

Now that we know how dieseleverything is using the fuel log, just omit him from the list or put an asterisk by his MPG that links to a generic explanation of how the fuel log is meant to be used. Simply explain that not all members of the forum abide by the guidelines.

The 1000 mpg cars, as well as fuel logs not up to date need to be deleted, IMO.
