it's just a thought experiment. Pressure drag would persist, but skin friction might drop to zero.

If the air doesn't 'wet' the surface, would there even be a gradient?

Not so odd at all, but I guess Mitsubishi took a better aerodynamically-wise approach than Subaru when it comes to the air flow around the intercooler...

The rooftop solar PV panels and rails kind of ruin the aerodynamics, an odd decision.

I don't think the drag numbers on the Saber will be near the last several other offerings by McLaren, looks too busy to be low drag - an optical illusion?

Does it have to be monolithic to be low drag?

It has a long, sleek shape with low aerodynamic drag, a perfect design for cutting through traffic.

It looks like the panels take advantage of the circular cross-section to track laterally. Could be integrated better, of course.

Looks like I posted this image before, Post #2586.

Not getting the Aerofiat link to work though, none of the 2018 links work, getting 404 notices.

Did a search, seems like some of Alain Bublex's work is real, although others are of the imagination awaiting realization.

Did a translate on part of this article below:
https://www.auto-reverse.com/aerofiats/
Quote:
Flying a 500 kg car, powered by a sluggish 600 Cm3 twin-cylinder. And yet, many Aerofiats models have succeeded each other, each winning a new victory over the elements and preconceptions. This dream of a different future comes from designer Alain Bublex.

With a whole series of documents, photos of the car tests, technical plans and others, we end up wanting to believe that these cardboard appendages are real and that this Aerofiat, with a simple kick of the starter, will take to the air. Trained in automotive design, Alain Bublex began his career in the early 1990s. His first work was the creation of a fictional city, GLOOSCAP.
The link above used in the translation also says "aerofiats" in the ending. Guess they reorganized their content and changed servers or something.

EDIT:

One of the guys at Pelican posted this link.

Trying to make a Fiat 126p look like something from a low-budget attempt to make a sci-fi movie is quite strange to say the least...
