Not so sure about the accuracy of these diagrams.

Not often the boundary layer gets called out, so I included that last image.

"Squareback Type" is not. No separation bubble on the front edge of a hood with that much slope.

Yea, it's one of those non-literal diagrams based on typologies handed down from previous generations.
Recently I checked out a book on aerodynamics from the public library, a very general book or introductory to the topic; author with the last name of Allen. It's filled with such abstractions but the core of information is still solid if prior knowledge puts it all in context for you.
My personal experience with this was with my hovercraft about eight years ago. Diagrams I had studied for years like a religious text which I had faith in turned out to be misleading and contained only fragments of the truth.
When I tried to emulate these diagrams with my full scale actual hovercraft that's when my real learning happened, hands on as it were. False Gods no more.
Nothing beats first hand observation and experience.
I wish we all had a wind tunnel in our backyards for this reason, life would be grand.

Those in snow country do have a wind tunnel in there back yard . And more accurate than wind tunnel as the air is still and vehicle is moving.

I have to agree, but mine is in the front yard, more accurately on the street.
"Snow Flow" testing?

not sure about the accuracy
Yeah,I'm thinking that there wouldn't be the exaggerated separation over the bonnet as shown

Agreed Aerohead.
A short story/ theory on why the larg gap fill on the hood.
On kach22i hood .
I think it is nature showing us the flaws . Any accumulated snow is a resurrection zone that drops snow. Slowly filling the imperfections. Improving the Cd of the obstruction allowing less energy to be pulled out of the wind causing the wind speed to creep up eg the bow wake in both radius and distance from the front of truck. Increased as the storm went crazy with a bucket of quick set bondo and liberal use of the cheese grander soothing out the naborhood.
(Like filling 1/2" of bondo in the highest and lowest 5% pressure zones front and rear . Run in a wind tunnel, fill, run, fill ,run, ect. Till you got a purific shape.) I think you would end morphing to a verry similar shape fo the template. Given enough runs
Some of it is vertically accumulated from short periods of calm.
Filling the snow spots would massively improve cd. Becouse you are no longer paying to circulate that air.
Dreem big chisel down to reality

Ive tryed the Gopro on all resolutions it offers . It has no mid range focus so supper close1-15"or very far25-100'. Wont pick up the flakes in flight as good as my Samsung Note5. With just the right lighting the snow flakes should be very visible. Gopro has truble with low light.. Ive got to stich the pieces parts I've gotten off the phone ,short runs of useable and hands get cold holding a camera out the window.

I thought the comment traces back to the 2nd pic in Permalink #592.
My interpretation of the snerodynamics is that there was a uniform layer of snow that was sculpted by a headwind after the fact. Hence the hollow on the ground under the front bumper.
Edit: Let the record show — I've been wrong before.
