tire pressure

I drive a 92 LSi and have my tires at 35psi, is this to low then?

Reading your story you mention you rears at 38psi and the fronts at 45psi? Tell me if I need to change mine, thanks!

Aaron

You're better off inflating your tires to maximum sidewall pressure if your goal is strictly mileage. Some people exceed that considerably. But you may not want to go as high as maximum sidewall pressure if you're driving on snow and ice.

No more than +5 psi from recommended is what I'd suggest. You certainly don't want to blow it. Especially since I doubt your carrying a spare or jack.

I have ran my 95 Geo Metro's tires (rated at 36 PSI) at 45 PSI for the last 15000 miles with no problems (and I've driven 75 MPH like that).

Forgot to mention the weight of the vehicle plays a role in how much PSI to add as well. Your Metro probably weighs less than a ton (2000 lbs).

I must be a total retard

I read these fuel numbers and have convinced myself there all lies. I have 42mpg best on my new engine. I have the kill switch the higher compression the 50 psi tire pressure i no longer pick up fat chicks hitch hiking. i also installed te manual throttle which should really help out my kill switch coast. not a single mods seems to have helped at all? infact i got this mpg before i restored the machine.
I just installed a big wink mirror inside and will be ditching the outside mirrors. also prettyt smooth hub caps.

I was think i could get rid of the glass and seats in side and where a helmet to reduce weight and maybe some drag?

I also considering driving over the car with a monster truck to help with the drag issues.

i did build a tow bar to tow geo's i find dead home and i can say its time for a rear disc brake kit when towing and a turbo or maybe a NOS bottle for coming out of the hole and up to speed.

I have a hummer H2 with a tow bar for it i think i'll hook it to the geo and post a picture of the geo draggin it down the road.

You super MPG guys are you running the stock 12' tires? and the air dam in the picture on your red geo is that almost to eth ground i dont understand about the 6" or 4" off the ground you mentioned.

I've never felt so disappointed with 40 mpg.

I have no trouble believing 75 mpg is possible from these cars under certain conditions.

Post #9 explains how he did it. Also note that he got these numbers in summer conditions, and with aeromods in place.

That would definitely reduce frontal area. If you pursue this aggressive mod, please post on YouTube.

hey watercat. I think if you took a ride with some of us whackos you'd see how we get these "unbelievably" high MPG numbers. 99.99% of the people out there CAN'T/WON'T drive the way some of us do to get great fuel mileage.

I think you have a 1994 3/5? Do you have any MPG feedback, like an MPGuino? With a fresh engine and light right foot, over 50 mpg should be a piece of cake.

in all seriousness i am trying. I had the block bored 40 over put in pistons and total seal rings. installed bronze guides and stainless valves, put in the 4 cylinder fly wheel and clutch kit had the crank turned 20 and the front pulley to the pressure plate all balanced together. I have set all specs basically at stock right now and advanced the timing 5 degrees a few days ago to see what timing would do a few more each tank. I'm running the cheap fuel with 1o% alcohol in it which cant help. I also raised the compression to about 11.5 or so and cut those sining or what ever he is called grooves in the head i read on here. My best is 42 mpg so far but i seem to fall in the 38 all the time. this is not my first geo i have had way to many and even a brand new one in 1990 which i just got rid of a while back. I thought i checked my gas mileage before and got better but now i'm starting to think that keeping a log book is showing me the real deal of about 40 when i thought it was about 50mpg. this week I'm going to tape off the grill and remove the mirrors. Also i just switched to atf with prolong additive in the trans axle to make that as thin as possible and i have a5 something synthetic in the engine. plus i installed the teen speed bike shifter for a throttle on my gear shifter and a kill switch for the injector/cam sensor. Its even a green metro color, if red makes them faster green should make them more efficient.
It has to be a lot in the driving technique and i honestly have not even started reading on the hyper mile aging or what ever its being called. I do try and drive 50 to 55 all the time as well.
what is a good timing setting and i have read lots about cam changes etc and cam gear changes but no one has said that i have read this is for sure the way to go.
on a positive note i just bought a electric geo and will have it this week i hope with all new batteries so i can be disappointed with range and top speed instead of mpg.

next mod cut hole in floor to help push with both feet.
