I just don't need a car anymore... it's not worth $1100/year in insurance to me.
I'll still have the truck for 6 months out of the year though. The rest of the time, I can rent a car for over three weeks straight before it costs as much as a year of civic insurance. To be honest, that's all the longer use it for anyway.

I know it is off topic but what happened to rally, rally, rally? Have you moved on from motor sports permanently?

No, now he's a low volume eco-car producer.

Just called and if I completely took my car off insurance, it would save me $866/year, or about 18 days of renting a Kia. Sounds good to me. That's $72/mo more to my student loans, and the car maintenance costs can get me internet in my apartment haha.
As for the rally stuff, I'm still crazy about rally but it doesn't make sense for me to maintain a car almost solely for two weekends a year. That's about $800 per weekend if you include maintenance costs. I can just as easily go with friends and bring my mountain bike. Or drive my truck (to magnum opus).
Yes, I will have to switch registration on my truck to non-classic, but that will not cost me any more money than today, unless the insurance company wants to be difficult. They recently switched it to "classic car- regular use" because I haven't been driving for 10 years yet (less than 26 years old) so I figure having "regular" plates can't make a difference.
A friend of mine sold his only car a month ago, but he didn't use his either. He simply takes a bus when he wants to visit family. I like Amtrak but they don't take bicycles on the Wolverine line. I'll have to finish my recumbent then stuff it in a suitcase. Or rent a car for a couple days.
I've had lots to think about lately. It's time to work on the recumbent again. Making blueprints for the front dropouts currently. By a show of posts, would anyone like to see a thread on it? Or should I keep it to myself?
Cheers. Tyler

Makes sense to me!
It'll be sad to see you go, but until you've got enough equity/capital socked away that that kind of money is of no consequence to your big picture if you don't need the car for daily duty, it makes more sense to pay down debt & put it away (invest).

Bike... yeah, let's see it!
On the car, do I understand correctly... you'll keep it but take it off the road to save the insurance?

Ironically my car insurance bill came today. Nice increase- not. Thinking of the best way to reduce it...

I'd definitely follow a recumbent build.
