Yeah lots of interesting reactions. Almost like you're viewing a cross section of society.
I did some poking around. Found the worst rust on the car.
Ok, I'm not putting any more major money into this thing unless I need to. I'll start looking at others on CL in non-salt states as well, to get an idea.
Blocked off the window with plastidip and this happened.
Then started my skirt mounts.

Looking good. I've got to redo mine so I'm curious about the approach you're taking. I'll keep an eye on it.

It's been rainy and I need more coroplast, so no work has been done since Sunday. I'm building a wooden shoe rack in the mean time...
I looked on CL and it appears that Civic shells are available for about $500 down in Arizona and the like. VX's range from $2000 to $5000. I'm thinking it would be fun to get a clean shell, do my first engine swap into it (from Ren) and do some nice modifications for MPG (rear skirt mounts?) before painting the thing nicely and undercoating EVERYTHING. I understand this is a lot of work. We'll see how I feel once I've thought about it for a while. (Practice before I restore the F100?)
I want a "nice" car but I don't want to ruin a clean VX by removing the interior and wiring in a bunch of switches. So I figure another Frankenstein car would suit me well...
Meanwhile, that bicycle fuel is just KILLING my wallet!

Like that, but with only the top box. It's basically an extruded, flattened box section and I'm putting on some 8" hairpin table legs. Partly an excuse to use the 75 cent boards I got at an estate sale and partly an excuse to use my "new" inherited miter saw. Right now my "shoe rack" is a set of purple Honda HX wheels with a sheet of foam core across the top
And, yes, "bicycle fuel"... I kind of chuckled at the thread about gas prices. Just like Metro said, I've mostly engineered the car out of my daily life. (But it's still nice to have one)

It's so weird being a car enthusiast who doesn't really drive.

I am now entertaining offers to buy this car. It's got a few good parts and would be a great candidate for a frame swap. Yokohama Avid Ascend LRR ties with a few thousand miles on them, lightweight hood, VX mirror delete, custom aero drivers mirror, removable Hella 500 rally/driving lights... Even a set of good Blizzaks. Four 14" HX wheels. Full Summit poly bushing kit, new ball joints, front LCAs, rear UCAs, rear shocks, tie rod ends, axles, manual steering. Lowering springs installed and stock ones included.
45mpg highway right out of the box but it has a very sparse interior. D16Y7 and 5spd.
Offers welcome. I know it's not a nice car but maybe someone could use it. Located in Warren, MI
PS it'll come with a spare DX (AFAIK) transmission that has unfortunately been through the recent Detroit flood. I don't know if it's usable.
