I have seen gas work fine after almost a year, but it was in a totalled car with a sealed fuel system. If you keep the oxygen and moisture out of the container then the fuel will last a long time.
My VX was off the road from 1996 to 2008, but that was pure gas, without ethanol, and it ran OK until I got to a gas station.
I take old gas a pour it into the wifes car when the tank is close to full and have never had any problem with it.
regards
mech

I let a car sit for 29 months. Then I took a new battery out to it and used it as a DD for 8 months. It wasn't happy with that first tank, but it ran.

7 year old gas in the Firefly the day I test drove it, and it ran just fine. I replaced it before I drove it home though. (And then gradually fed it back to the car, much diluted with fresh gas.)

This is something me and my wife do regularly.
There are a couple places that even have 100 gallon limits on gasoline with discount (Casey's General Store used to with Hyvee discount...but my wife told me they changed that to 40 gallons recently. Murphy's gas station is 50 gallons with discount I think). I just fill up the auxiliary tank on the pickup when I get a good deal.
Between grocery discount ($0.75-1.00), the 5% credit card cash back, and combining trips I save a lot of money filling up once and pumping it into my cars/motorcycles/4-wheelers/tractors/generators/etc at home. Depending on the station, you usually get a free soda/burger and sometimes a free car wash for spending over $150 at the pump.
As long as you aren't buying a bunch of junk food you weren't planning to AND you pay off the credit card before interest is due, this is a legitimate way to save a couple hundred dollars a year on gas/diesel.

This is brilliant! I do something similar for my truck already, carry a 8 gallon tank with my then dump it into the main and only refill both on the same maxed-out fuel points account. I never thought of doing this for smaller tank cars though.....gonna have to start telling people I know to do this!

I put the plan into action today. Ended up paying 4.1cents/mi and $1.70/gal and saved about $15. I bought Shell gas, although it's a bit pricier, because it ought to be high quality if I'm stuck with it for the next 6 weeks.
I'll check back in around mid-May when I have to stop at a gas station again. If fuel prices go up, I'm gonna look like a genius.

Oh yeah, two other funny things to report. The gas station attendant looked at me funny when I pre-paid $65 for a tiny little car. lol
And I did feel a little uncomfortable driving around with a 20-gallon bomb in the trunk, but it was only for a few miles.

According to this rather interesting link, my car is cheaper to fuel than a Model S in Alaska, Hawaii, Connecticut, New York, and New Hampshire.

LOL. That reminds me of when, as a kid, I would take my multivitamin every other day and put it in my sister's vitamin jar. That way, both levels went down equally and my mom never knew. I was a clever little $h**, I guess.
Today I had my second fill-up. It's been over 50 days since I stopped at a gas station. I got a 62c/gallon discount and ended up paying $2.04/gallon. 1275.3 miles, 39.8 mpg, strictly city driving
5.1 cents/mile. I'll check back in early July, perhaps...
