Hello,

I just got SGII and it works OK on mine Audi. I set displacement 1.9 liter, but it shows very small numbers i.e. at 70 km/h speed it shows about 3-3.3 liters per 100 km. On idle it reads about 0.5 liter per hour. Is it OK? I saw that other people use 3/4 multiplier to even set smaller displacement, why? ;]

Good news So it seems to be true that VW (and Audi) started to comply to OBD earlier than necessary.

Idle consumption looks OK, Euromodder and I both have the same engine (1.6HDi) and we both see idle consumption around 0.5 l/h.

You will have to calibrate the SGII at each fill-up, after a while it should be close its target. If not, you may try the trick with engine displacement reduction. Take into account that the ScanGauge is harder to calibrate with a diesel than with a gasser.

Another question: moving SG to another car is pain in the arse? Or i need each time to readjust it?

Pain in the Arse if you are swapping back and fro. If the change is for a while then you re-calibrate.

Also setting the engine size to something like 1.6 gets you closer to reality in the 1.9, and then adjusting to 1/2 way between the estimated fillup and the actual gets you closer.

Using this my last tank was 1.5 MPG out SG2 vs real world, which TBH is probably not bad given no ventectomy on my Fabia - yet.

You'd have to change the engine displacement, and calibrate it in the other car as well.

Once you've calibrated it , make a note of the % of adjustment that you've made for either car (when you use the FILLUP function).

If you swap them out later, it's just a matter of setting the displacement and the adjustment % .

That's not impossible

That's about what it'd use when warm.

See how accurate it is when you're filling up

. . .
Interesting, tricking the 1.5L Prius engine to run in idle and compared to a 1.5L Echo, we got these numbers:
  • 0.64 l/h - 1.5L Prius (2003), 0.17 g/hr ScanGauge II
  • 0.57 l/h - 1.5L Echo (2001), 0.15 g/hr ScanGauge II
  • 0.23 l/h - 1.5L Prius in hybrid power/cyling idle, using differential MPG over 12 hours, built-in tripmeter with MPG display.
The first two were read by the Scangauge from the respective vehicles. The Prius engine was triggered to run by enabling the air conditioner, shifting into "N", and turning the air conditioner off. The last was measured by measuring fuel burned over a 12.7 hour period and calculating the fuel burn by comparing the MPG at the start and end. FYI, I'm reasonably confident of the accuracy.

Idle fuel burn is an indicator of the engine internal overhead. Simply take whatever thermodynamic ratio one wants to use against the fuel energy content and one would have a 'close enough' estimate of engine, mechanical overhead.

FYI, here is a chart showing Prius hybrid idle behavior of the main, 272V traction battery without and with a 1 kW load on the electrical system:

The 1 kW load was a space heater and we were drawing 13.75 V @71-74A.

Is it normal that i covered 210 km by OEM gauge, but Scangauge sees only 200 km?

That's a serious error - 5%

My Scangauge is also slightly off compared to the car's display, but the errors are centered around 1%.

The Scangauge however, gives my actual speed (compared to GPS) while the car always indicates a slightly higher speed (legally it can't indicate too low).
The car also indicates a higher distance covered than the SG, so these are most likely directly related.

I have some data to compare the car, SG and GPS numbers to each other, but haven't gotten around to analyse them.
