Control authority. Quadcopters can do back flips.

My helicopter could do back flips, roll and fly inverted, front flips. I couldn't. Actual answer is cyclic. Swashplate makes life significantly more complex, in addition to the precession and system lag. Precession can be anywhere from 45 to 90 degree angle before the commanded result occurs. If you use straight thrust from a motor, response becomes merely a function of spooling up time and momentum/inertia and it is the same across the entire operational spectrum. the thrust has no precession only an anti torque value. In addition for choppers you need computerized mixing because the controls operate ganged, for drones just standard speed controls driven by standard radio controls.
Need more thrust? Add bigger motors and props.
By the way: I dislike the term drone as it refers to a neutered being that is obligated to work tirelessly and casually disposed of after usefulness terminates. Or the resonant pipes of a bagpipe. I fly RPV$.

So can helicopters, and they can fly upside down (I suppose quads could too).

I dunno.

Surprisingly, yes, helicopters can fly upside down. But, the catch is that they can only do it for a few seconds.
While some helicopters can perform inverted flight, especially if they’ve undergone modifications, the vast majority of helicopters are incapable of such a feat.

I'd thought the rigid rotor was what enabled inverted flight.

False witness. This is notable for me because E. Jean Carroll looks [and acts] just like my first ex-wife.
edit: ?t=4094 Another day and he still ignores the Oregon UFOs. ATC traffic is reputable.

The swashplate, and by extension collective control is what allows inverted flight.
Helicopters are way more maneuverable than multirotor craft.
There is no way I could retain composure in most of those legal charades.

Well not the mouth open guy.
Problem with inverted quads is the motor controllers wont operate in reverse. NO reverse no inverted thrust. In a helicopter you can go very negative angle of attack, which you could probably do in a multi rotor RPV via a hollow shaft motor system, but no one seems to have bothered with those or full reversing motor controllers. More than you cared to know

That's what Internet is all about; and this thread in particular. Any informed opinion on #767? Drones are required by Federal edict to continuously transmit an identifier, location and location of the operator?
How big a drone to carry a five pound payload, like this?
Maybe a tilt-pan ground mount driven by a Raspberry PI neural chip for object recognition?

Kinda rule of thumb: double the weight you want to carry and size components accordingly. Figure 18" minimum, not including prop disc outside structure profile. Bigger is more stable, but with gyros size could be redundant.
I have a couple motors that would support 10 lbs thrust, but not 100% duty cycle so you want to gang (correct word?) a couple more to reduce the motor heat load, but that significantly increases battery size, even more if you need to loiter longer than 10 minutes. Figure maybe 400 watt hours of battery, need to know motor draw to spec design better. Obviously more motors, more thrust, more complexity but more stable and bigger payload.
There's a couple trick questions thrown out there on the spotlight: 120k lumens is ok but what is the emitting device? Leds? 120 k lumens is about what one of my filament foglamps do each and the viewing specs are about the same. Not even hardly the brightest flashlight.

Oh and while I am thinking about it: AFAIK, there is no requirement for a red rotating beacon on a quad (even with 6 motors) strobes, and red, green, white position lights, yes. So if there's a red flashing light in the picture, it's an airplane.
