I was considering a heavy cotton canvas painted with hitemp silicone sealant but it would need seams and hems and grommets or pockets f o r the straps. there is a thread titled 'weird idea' and someone fashioned a belly pan from a tarp laminated to chicken wire, another with window screen material , I think there has also been one made of paper mache. !

I've found a cheap source of Correx/Corroplast sheet - but I'm not sure if 2mm would be suitable...

I get mine from an art supply store. it is 20 Canadian dollars for a 4x8 sheet. orange yellow clear black brown grey and blue. my building centre has white and clear for 19 dollars a sheet and it is 4mm. I don't know if the 2mm would be bad.

Alright here is a pic from the rear of the car before the belly pan is pulled tight.
you can see the shaping for the wheel wells andthe piece tucksright into the chin guard.

I took this pic before a test run to a little town about 10km away. shortrun from here to the highway, all is good. On to the onramp and it still sounds good, upto speed and whap-whap whap. I get out and it seems that the whole thing has loosened. I figure from the springs compresssing under a loaded car. I tighten it and off again but soon, whap whap whap. this time when I check , it has melted right down the middle. I guesss it is not a good idea. I am back to the design process. So sorry it didn't work. I am going to try an airdam instead

Rat's. that's a shame. I would *guess* that once some air got in up front then the rest of the belly pan became a sail.

Thanks for the update. Even bad results are good info because you are saving us from going down the same path.

this should give you an idea of the force of the air coming under the car at highway speeds:

it will peal back gorilla tape.....

Perhaps some extra straps side-to-side would help? I've wondered about using fencing wire, stretched taut by 'bottle-screws'.

I still like the basic idea - but I can see how lack of rigidity/support could be an issue...

In the areas where burning occurred, surely you could just cut that area away, or arrange for something to hold the material away from the exhaust?

For my car i am planning a alu 1x1 square rigid frame with attachments every 20 25 inch. And then alu sheets rivit on the frame. And under the engine a sheet rivit to a single frame witch is bolted on. Maybe a little more expencive. But heat proof, rigit and practicly completly flat. And then on the sides also from sheet wheel wide skirts lower than de belly pan
