Maybe these days.

But way back in 2009, 3 days after the public health emergency was declared, the President asked Congress to approve a $1.5 billion emergency package. No one said back then that the new virus would "be fine" or just "go away".

I know it's eleven years ago, but I don't remember having to wear a mask to get a slice of pizza.

Did it go away?

Closing the border to China and Europe prevented what happened to other countries. At this moment, China is being ravaged by Corona virus [still], Brucellosis and who knows what else.

Nope, not going there. I'm susceptible to schadenfreude, but delighting in the suffering of others has no value even if they have it coming.

I cut it off at who knows what else.

I could go on — the Shanghai River is defeating their best hydrologists, conscripted college students have tears streaming down their faces as they sing a patriotic song on the way to the Himalayas to face battle-hardened Indian and Tibetan troops, they're conscripting 35-48 year olds, famine is in the cards.

They're good people with bad hygiene who don't empathize with strangers. They don't deserve the governance they're under.

But consider: Liberia has a constitution, and slavery today.
Quote:
Constitution of Liberia - Wikipedia

The Constitution of Liberia is the supreme law of the Republic of Liberia. The current constitution, which came into force on 6 January 1986, replaced the Liberian Constitution of 1847, which had been in force since the independence of Liberia.Much like the 1847 Constitution, the Constitution creates a system of government heavily modeled on the Federal Government of the United States.

Isn't flu season just starting?

Tim Pool reported on this [log-in-walled] article in the NYT: United States of Paranoia: They See Gangs of Stalkers. Youtube offers but won't load a transcript but the pull quote goes something like this: "For the few specialists who have looked closely, these individuals represent an alarming development in the history of mental illness: thousands of sick people, banded together and demanding recognition on the basis of their shared paranoias."

Sounds like Demo about right.

edit:
Remember the old Climate Consensus thread? Today's Suspicious 0bservers' report points to

Flu and china virus together suck, that cocktail will kill people who are otherwise healthy.
Also china is reporting essentially 0 deaths from the virus they released. So 3 possibilities.
1 They had a vaccine all along, seems the least likely.
2 The virus is ravaging them and they refuse to report on it.
3 They let the virus rip, it killed way more people than what they claim and naturally reached herd immunity.

Not knowing the official strain designation, I would tend to disagree along with the definition of ravage. Healthcare is better now, stuff that was fatal is now a mere hindrance

viruses mutate to a less lethal strain naturally. The job is survival and killing your hosts is not a good path to that.
This is why each year's flu shot is just a best-guess. It is a moving target.
