In Fla its 48" for a flag 18" sq? and a light if after sunset.
But I will make the rear energy device likely 47" long and I will add all normal required led lights (Tail running turn and tag) and reflective CMV red/white tape to the energy conservation device.

That would be my approach. Why spend thousands to add an unwanted axle to avoid a $100 ticket that likely you will never get?

FWIW, when all the pieces start to fall into place on the project, the last item will be the aero hinged aero tail, and I will share its design here for review, before it gets built.

What a hell of a bureaucracy... On a sidenote, I noticed most of the campervans I'm seeing are fitted with solar panels.

I'm surprised it has taken so long to catch on. It's got plentiful useable real estate, power is always needed, and travel/use is usually during sunny weather.

It's quite expensive, yet it's becoming way more common nowadays. I have even seen some flexible solar panels in the Kombi of a Paraguayan guy.

Even during winter it's useful anyway. And I see a reasonable amount of folks who enjoy travelling all year-round.

Panels and battery storage have been expensive traditionally. That recently changed with the chinese manufacturers willing to pollute their nest for profit.

I have fine-tuned/upgraded my RV electrical design. I will use a 31 AGM dual purpose battery for mainly starting, and have 100Ah Li battery and 12V inverter for small essentials, both charged by a Dual circuit DC-DC 50A solar powered battery charger by Renogy, which can accept the RV engine driven alternator to charge both batteries independently, and the AGM can supplement the LI battery at preset voltages thru the charger, all the while also hooked to a 100W solar panel. This gives a bit of redundancy and convenience in keeping everything charged up, at a reasonable cost
The main RV system will remain a separate 2800W solar powered, and those batteries are going to be what budget allows.

I have 3 small systems running Renogy charge controllers with no problems so far. The campervan has been running for 7 years now.
To bad they dont make a 48v version of that dual DC - DC. To charge my 48v house batteries from the alternator Im going to have to go through a 12v DC to 120v AC inverter. (Which I already have so i might as well use)
I bought the rest of my Renogy components during their 1/2 off Black Friday sale last week

Renology for the price only? One board I visit has harsh words for their hardware post purchase.
