Subaru was doing the high strength steel cage 15-20 years ago. Nothing new there. I recall reading that rescue crews needed to buy special blades to cut through Impreza B-pillars.
The aluminum use is nice to see.

Yes, wonder too. All those metal-to-metal contacts make me nervous.
I have a first gen Insight, and all the bolts going into aluminum have a weird greenish tinge from the specialized plating they used. But still, with northeastern cars, you are drilling out half the bolts you take out of the damn thing.

I saw a Model 3 in person for the first time, on Saturday. It is spacious enough for my 6'-6" brother to be able to drive.

Three different kinds of steel, and one aluminum alloy - probably doable.

The Bloomberg tracker is showing an alarming downfall in the weekly production numbers... down from over 1000 a week early February to less than 600 now?
https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2018-tesla-tracker/
And people worry: https://forums.tesla.com/forum/forum...ne-has-stopped
Even though they are leading the EV sales?
https://cleantechnica.com/2018/03/05...sales-dim-usa/
More good news at Electrec: like the dual motor all wheel drive Model 3 has been spotted in the wild:
https://electrek.co/guides/tesla-model-3/
So there may be a good reason for the production slump. Them robots have new Model 3 versions to master?

Latest local rumor over giga way is they have tons of "easy" parts but not enough bodies to build and fit the challenging bits.

February for in Model 3 output was apparently due to a pause in production to update the lines:
https://www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/a...-late-february
Targeting 2500/wk by the end of the month, 5k/wk by the end of June.
