Reasons for a crossover as far as I can tell in relative order;

1. Easier ingress/egress for the elderly and injured
2. Can see traffic easier from the higher vantage point
3. Ground clearance
4. Aesthetic preference

I really like the Prius due to the large and functional interior space. When it comes to small cars I'd rather just ride a motorcycle, but bad weather makes that impractical at times.

You've had multiple options to buy a subcompact EV but it looks like you bought a midsize Leaf instead. If people that claim to want to buy a subcompact EV don't buy them why should manufacturers make them?

Today Mini will be happy to sell you a subcompact Mini EV for $30K ( which becomes $20K after rebates in Oregon). That is $6400 less than the gas version.

Thread: I was always a "car guy". Crossovers & SUV's are ending that

This is even being applied to some compact cars, with higher seat cushion heights and slightly higher than traditional roofs.

EG: my 86 year-old dad has a bad back, and he was amazed at how dramatically easier it was to get in/out of a Mirage G4 sedan than his (former) Civic:

Unfortunately this is an arms race, so that advantage has basically been erased because everyone's buying SUVs & CUVs & crossovers. The scourge of dark tinted glass negates this advantage even more.

Now image how much easier it would be for him to get into and out of a Honda CR-V.

I will never buy an SUV!

Very nice.

Aside: when my parents moved the family to this tiny eastern Ontario city in the mid-80's, there was a little old lady still driving a lovely baby blue 2-door '65 Pontiac Tempest. If I'm not mistaken, the genesis of the GTO was swapping the mild-mannered 4/6-cyl out of the Tempest and transplanting a 389 V8 from the big Catalina/Bonneville sedans. Coincidentally, my first car was a US market Catalina 4D hardtop with the 389 that someone had imported to Canada.

Fine by me. However CUVs aren't SUVs. They aren't built on body-on-frame truck chassis and many don't have much if any more ground clearance than a sedan. They are basically a hatchback or wagon with a few more inches of headroom so people can sit more upright

Ford calls the Mach-E GT a crossover but it only has 5.3 inches of ground clearance and is 63 inches tall. A Prius V has 5.7 inches of ground clearance and is 62 inches tall. Is the Prius an SUV?

Your Geo Metro has 6.3 inches of ground clearance. That is more than a Chevy Trax which only has 6.2 inches of ground clearance.
