Yeah, like I said earlier, even Tesla doesn't really have the resources to do this. They may have dodged the bullet on this one because only the driver was killed (and they can argue that it was his own fault), but suppose that crossing vehicle had happened to be a school bus full of kids instead of a semi load of IIRC vegetables?

AutoPilot 2.0 will be released soon, using two extra cameras to detect traffic lights and road signs.
All well, but what is really needed is one camera observing the driver and slowing the car on the shoulder if it detects the driver is not keeping his eyes on the road.
Maybe show a warning on the infotainment before bringing it to a stop, or something nasty like a Duran Duran clip or a Clinton campaign ad.

I just went to watch a music video and got Rick-Rolled:
Have it play this, or "The Song that Never Ends!"
(don't make me link it!)

^that would be perfect for the IT savvy, like the owner of the crashed Tesla.
Make them stare in the distance hours after reaching their destination

Getting a little worse for Tesla today:
"The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission opened an investigation into the electric automaker over its failure to notify investors about the deadly May 7 crash, in which a Model S sedan set to “Autopilot” slammed into a tractor-trailer rig, killing the driver. Tesla disclosed the crash publicly about two months later."

Well, the responsibility is still on the driver.
Heard a legend once that someone driving a camper van turned the cruise on at a straight road and took a piss in the toilet- the car veered to the right and scraped the railng for half a mile or so.

You are European, right? (Donīt worry, me too. So I am as confused as you)
But it poses interesting question and I hope someone can clarify it to us (confused europeans):
From european-law point of view:
- was the driver warned that so called "autopilot" feature is driver assist only?
- was the driver paying constant and full attention to traffic?
- did the driver damage more property or claimed someone elses life so we can claim reward on his insurance company?
Case closed.
So please explain why is someone investigating Tesla???
IMHO their worst fault was to market it as "autopilot" instead of "smart drive-assist" and not to inform their stockholders about the incident (but why they should in the first place??)
--and, although slightly off topic, but three other questions:
there are some urban legends or jokes about American law system, so I would like to know:
- do you have warning in your microwave ovens that you are not supposed to let animals dry inside? (based on urban legend)
- is it true that it is explicitly stated that one cannot leave to pee while driving his mobile home? (that is one of the urban legends Fingie wrote in earlier post)
- how about match boxes. Do they have label "Open the other side up"?
-- I donīt want to sneer at you, I am really curious.

SEIFROB, THE may 7 accident appears to fail your first two questions: he was watching a movie and Tesla has them sign a waiver or consent or something in order to get this feature on their car. Tesla does not seem to be at fault in the accident itself. The issue is that the law seems to require the company to notify investors of adverse events that could affect its stock price. How foolish thei guy seems to have been. How awful for his family. How fortunate nobody else was injured or killed.
