I rented a prius 3 for 2 weeks. Amazing machine. No matter how I drove I couldnt get the mpg under 49.9mpg. I was in the left lane keeping up with traffic in NOVA on i95. Yup, basically passing everyone else in their gas guzzler as well as honda insights trying to save fuel.

The one I want is a SEAT Ibiza TDI ecomotive estate (wagon)

1.2 Litre TDI, 6 speed, skinny tyres, aero, stop-start...

I would have that over 70 MPG....

I wait for Mrs A to vacate her Prius and maybe it might be mine....

I'd be satisfied with some random compact with a small turbodiesel such as an Opel Astra with that Fiat-sourced 1.3L Multijet engine, if I could legally register it here. A pipe dream would be to match the driveline of a Peugeot 3008 e-HDi into a Prius bodyshell just for fun.

Too bad SEAT cars are not officially available in this Republic of Bananas anymore. But this beauty would be good enought for me.

Congrats. Mechanically similar to the Prius C we get in North America, but the Yaris hybrid is a bit lighter. What's not to like?

I also talk to friends and students, whenever the topic of buying a new car comes up, about the best high FE options I know of on the new car market. I regularly, as a result, end up a promoter of buying the new models of the cars I am waiting to get used.

See my car's mod & maintenance thread and my electric bicycle's thread for ongoing projects. I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.
