My dream car is the same car that took me down the research road to finding EM. A late 2nd gen Ford Escape Hybrid. I know it's not a popular vehicle nor vehicle type on this board, but it fits so many needs that I want/need.

At this point, the only thing holding me back is the lack of a decent paying job (I need to be making more in one paycheck than what my car payment would be) and for the prices to fall a wee bit more.

Old, Mech: I don't "see" any different vehicles in my near future either. With 32k km (20k mi.) on the Firefly, I might die before it does.

But I could see myself picking something else up just for fun, if the price is right, just to drive for a while before going back to the old Fleabag.

I think at this day and time all vehicles are eco. Hell, even the new mustang has an optional 4 cylinder eco boosted engine. What happen to the out right gas guzzlers like the h2 from back in the day?

Me? Id like a 300td or such diesel mercedes. I had a 240 that got 32 mpg, but it was a dog and full of rust.

I patiently waited for my HX! She and I have a long future together!

Mcrews, that kit is awesome! Thanks for sharing, I had not seen that!

To be honest, I wish that I had a Prius, just for the drive to my parents' house. I got 47 MPG on my last trip and I only started ecomodding her. It is frustrating to think that despite my best efforts at hypermiling, an idiot in a Prius still gets better mileage, while cutting me off!

Wait, the 2,001 Prius is rated 42/41! It has all of the advantage in-city, but its highway rating is only 5% higher than mine, which I beat regularly! Yay me!

Yes, so, the drive to my parents' house. 165 miles and my car does not have cruise control. With plenty of hills (mountains and canyons, too), I start coasting as I crest the hill, lose as much speed as possible, and then coast until I feel that I need to slow down again, when I will shift back into gear, and probably down-shift.

My lady Chorizo handles canyons well at 85 MPH, but since the speed limit is 55, I run the risk of dying or worse, being ticketed!

I figure that in a Prius, I would set the cruise control and just try to stay between the lines and stay awake.

Of course, the current Prius gets 51/48, but I could not find any Prius of any year in my price range, just salvage titles with much more mileage than my HX for $4-5,000.

I don't know what you are talking about! *cough buy my Prius cough*

As for cars that make me abandon all logic about making the purchase, that would require me to have been using some in the first place. I would however pay good money for a clean, 5 speed '88-'91 Civic wagon, especially a grey one. In fact, dare I say it, I would pay retail for one - Drive it til it died, then swap my VX drivetrain in it. I'd also pick up a Mercedes diesel wagon if I could find a nice one for a decent price. And the next Honda Beat that shows up at the auction might end up being mine, the JDM stuff has taken a dive here, a clean Nissan Figaro sold for like $5500 in November, so a Beat is going to be a lot less than that if one ever shows up. I've also always wanted a Del Sol DX, but finding a non-riced one of those is next to impossible in this neighborhood. As for newer eco cars, there is a repo CR-Z sitting in the storage yard waiting to be legal to sell. I don't know how resellable they are, but I'd try it out if it was cheap enough.

What if I sell you an "Aerocivic kit" for, say, $1500? Some assembly required. It would consist of a lot of sheet aluminum & bar stock.
