What RPM, VX shift light?
I just put a VTEC-E in my CX, so I don't have the VX shift light. Does it come on at different RPM's for different gears? or does it come on at a consistent RPM?
But the main thing is, what RPM?

It's not controlled by RPM alone.
If it comes on and you give it more gas it will go off.
Probably controlled by mulitple imputs, like RPM and MAP (load).

so you don't have a shift light at all, right?
Shift light comes on based on load, if you are on a really flat road you can cruse at 35mph in 5th gear with the engine spinning around 1,100rpm, the engine however had decent power for most driving needs around 1,800rpm and lots of power for passing at 2,500+ RPM.
do you have the v-tec solenoid hooked up?

I just bought a Honda Civic HX with a manual transmission. This car has the shift light in it and it was not coming on hardly at all the way I drive and shift through the gears at lower RPM's. When it did come on I would be in third gear slowly increasing speed in town and then the shift light would come on. I have only driven the car 50 miles just to get it home, so it's too new to me to really tell you when the shift light comes on at the exact RPM's in each gear.

I do have a vtec-e solenoid hooked up but because I don't have the correct exhaust manifold, 02 sensor, and no EGR valve, plus a P08 ECU (have P07, but not hooked up), vtec kicks in at 5,000 rpm, which I very rarely go to. I do have an aftermarket rpm gauge hooked up that's why I ask. Would a stock CX gauge cluster have a shift light in it? for when I hook up all the proper stuff and P07 ECU?
Thanks

Stock CX cluster doesn't have a shift light from what I've seen, stock VX cluster has the shift light and a tac, if you want a stock look.
5,000rpm is way to fast for the vtec-e to be kicking in at, it should be 2,500rpm and the only times that the engine should see 2,500rpm is when you have a car full of people or alot of cargo and need to merge in to freeway traffic, or other times like that where you need to get up to speed much quicker then normal.

I drove my 97 Civic HX yesterday. The transmission gearing in this car is taller than the other Civic models of the same year. The shift light comes on around 2,600 RPM in this car as you accelerate and shift through the gears.
The shift light in my HX can come on at 2,000 RPM while driving in a gear you think is perfect while driving 25 to 30 miles an hour, so the shift light does not just go on at one single RPM just like the other forum members have said.
Personally I'm shifting through the gears on this HX around 2,000 RPM and generally this is around the RPM range I shift most vehicles I drive with a manual transmission. Depends on the vehicle of course.
