But then you have to live in Canada. Like so many other places, it'd be great if it wasn't for the government. I mean, a country that makes you drive with your headlights on in broad daylight? That's as bad as Oregon not letting you pump your own gas :-(

Hummm... I wonder if they'll let you plug in your own EV at a charging station?

I'm a big fan of political / philosophical discussions because the "why" is at least as important as the "how".

That said, this topic should probably be in the lounge and not efficiency discussions.

Even though the climate there is not my cup of tea, and I strongly disagree with the current prime-minister Justin Trudeau and all the SJWs around, maybe it would still be better for me to live in Canada than here in Brazil.

Having to drive with the headlights on even in daylight sounds quite dumb, but it's not exclusive to Canada. It also happens in Uruguay

Isn't it possible to plug them in a regular outlet at home when a charging station is not available nearby? Anyway, what would they do next? Invade people's homes and enforce them to hire somebody supposed to be more capacitated to plug or unplug their appliances?

Well here in Australia, one state (Victoria) has a fine for changing your own light bulbs. The government hasn't been assed to wipe it, but what they have done is not change the fine since it was introduced. I think the fine is $10...

Is it serious? Who would change the light bulbs? And how would the government figure out the light bulbs got changed?

Therein lies the ludicrousness. A licensed electrician, and nobody knows, respectively. On further investigation the rule was changed in '98, but that was a lot of illegally changed light bulbs before that...

The question is about social control. The Antifa or current version of authoritarian Marxists want to make the whole world a Third World nation under their direct control. California is dealing with leftist thinking policy makers but can't provide enough power or water as it is; historical inevitability is the myth. As of Friday the water tunnel project was abandoned. The high speed rail project that was supposed to have been completed Sept. 30 is nowhere near done. Gov. Brown wants to ban ICE vehicles in 10 years. That does not consider there are no electric farm tractors available. Open sewers in the homeless camps of San Diego county has lead to an outbreak of hepatitis A. Just to make things more interesting the California primary voting has been moved to March in 2018. The desirability of single payer government healthcare is grossly overrated. Nice for urgent care but not major procedures. I have been rereading my Peter Drucker book on management, "The Essential Drucker" by Elizabeth H. Edersheim. It is the antidote for socialism.
As for technology I expect more hybrid electric velomobiles and autonomous vehicles to minimize the Infinite Queues aka traffic jams. Use a velo uni body and a go kart drive train to make a 500 mpg highway ride.
