YKYAEM when the motorcycle cop pulls you over for 46 in a 25 and gives you a verbal, not written, warning because "you haven't had a ticket for 6 or 7 years, so that means you don't do it all the time'.

....not knowing that's only about 4000 miles.

What means this term "verbal warning"? I have never experienced it.

I was watching ducks down at the river change location (but only moving about 30 feet): Some made as if to take flight, flapping like crazy and running their little webbed feet across the water, only to plop down again before reaching v1; Others stayed in the water and calmly feet-paddled their way over to the new spot.

And then YKYAEM when you wonder about the effect of duck efficiency preferences on duck evolution...

another verbal warning

I got a verbal warning once for "hypermiling" my way through a stop sign at a deserted intersection. Some call it a "rolling stop." The cop was parked halfway down the block of the cross street.

(YKYAEM when the entire time the cop had you in his sights, your engine was also shut off.)

As soon as he pulled away from the curb to follow me, I signalled and stopped - before he even activated his lights. I knew I was busted, and got my paperwork out.

I immediately admitted fault: "I know why you stopped me. Sorry about that! There were no other cars around, but I should have made a full stop anyway."

Got a verbal warning.

Similar to freebeard, he might have treated me differently if he'd known how I typically behaved at stop signs at deserted intersections with clear sight lines!

I usually get along well with traffic control officers.

Similar to MetroMPG, as soon as he rolled his wheels, I pulled over about 10 yard from where he sat. He ordered me through the intersection. I explained the out-of-date temporary license.

I was pulled over once in Junction City. When he walked up his first words were "Volkswagens are cool. This is a Volkswagen isn't it?" I was in the 1964/71 Type III Notchback.

The only part of that car I have left is the 5-speed transaxle.

The five-speed is a regular transaxle with the fifth gear in a shortened nose cone.

In this car it was paired with a 1776 with dual Solexes and stainless steel braided lines to an external oil cooler. It's currently earmarked for the 1958 Beetle and a stroker 1776 I have on the bench.

One year I drove it to the Portland Bugfest and the next year two or three Notchbacks in California showed with the same two-tone cut line, but in white over light blue. That made the roof look bigger instead of smaller.

It pulled the oval window easily at 55 in fourth. The hood emblem was replace with a Grateful Dead sticker.

Too far?

YKYAEM when...

You're offered the chance to take an Audi R8 for a spin, and the first two questions that pop into your mind are: 1) manual or automatic... 2) I wonder if it has an MPG gauge...

YKYAEM when you look at the R8 and try to see if it fits the template, and wonder what mileage it gets before you decide to drive it. Then you consider what you need to mod and you haven't even opened the door.
