The (hybrid) bus you're riding breaks down, and you offer to try to fix the problem. As it turns out, for whatever reason, the hybrid control system is disabled whenever the doors are open. Which is no problem until someone snags a backpack strap or something on a door sensor and breaks it off, disabling the bus. The temporary fix was to use a paper clip as a bypass.

Nice work! Generally on any bus, if the rear doors are open (or the sensor detects them open), the air-brakes won't disengage and the bus goes nowhere (on some, it locks-out the gear selector to Neutral only).

I had the chance to ride some of the new hybrid "bendy" buses in Chicago -- they're have a nice transition from standing start to acceleration.

They were built in Ontario, fyi, and likely have more than a few US made parts. CAW plant, in case that matters.

Speaking of which-

You watch The Road Warrior sequel and wonder why they haven't grabbed a bunch of PV panels, old engine blocks and boilers, converted tanks for Thermal and then converted their vehicles to EV to run on all that lovely free desert sunlight? PV and Solar Steam, just for the taking!

Lord Humungous and Co. would still be circling that refinery, but only to jeer at them (and maybe trade some lovely Greenhouse tomatoes for a few cans of axle grease)...

*true stories* You know your an Ecomodder if...

Your car gets 2 miles per gallon for every dollar you paid for it.

A Stingray and a Shelby pull into Chipotle, and the car that turns you on is the seafoam green 1992 Escort hatchback that the cook drives.

Your aghast to learn your coworker traded an Accord for a Cutlass.

The night clerk at Walmart tells you to $%*# off when you ask for help finding hubcaps in the cookware isle.

You nearly sunk your car into a lake because you coasted a mile down a straight road before you realized the keys were in the ashtray and the steering lock engaged.

YKYAE if you wonder how much the local taxi cab company would save if they turned their roof-top signs 90 degrees.

YKYAE-
When you look at a Geo Metro in pieces, and think to yourself:

I shouldn't buy this car... I have no experience with this car. I have no idea where to get parts. I'm not even sure if I can make it run again. It needs rust repair, and I'm not familiar with major body work. It's gonna get me GREAT MILEAGE.

Then you consider the options for picking it up:
1998 S10 2.2 5 speed
1991 Ford Ranger 2.8 5 Speed
1975 Ford F250 Ext Cab 460 auto stake body...

And you decide that you're probably going to use Cara and a highway-capable yard wagon.
