I saw a Zebra recently:
The dealer said it goes 35. He was also throwing a spare battery in there to make it go even faster. it uses a 72V Alltrax controller.
Since it's a three-wheeler, technically it's a motorcycle. Therefore it is excempt from NEV laws.
Typically, the 25 MPH thing is because of regulations. You can make electric vehicles that go any speed you want, but high voltage tends to cost $$$.
I should get out to the Zenn dealer sometime. There is one about 45 minutes away. I will report on it after I actually get out there.

OK, we need to hear about your ZENN. That's an oddball! I haven't though about those for years and years. My understanding is they were NEV's, thus limited to 25 mph? I assume you picked it up for peanuts?!
And they were assembled in Quebec, if I'm not mistaken.

Hi Darin,
Yes, I found an original owner in WI that just wanted it to go to a good home. He offered the extremely well taken care of ZENN for free. It was $800 to have it trucked to NY. I put $1,100 worth of new AGM group 35 deep cycle marine batteries in it and it drives like new. It's been reprogrammed for 35 mph. In the non winter months I drive it to work, a 20 mile round trip.

I once came across a ZENN with a tailpipe...
Sounded like it had an outboard engine under the hood!
Tailpipe!
From thread: Spotted! ZENN with a tail pipe! (Microcar MC1)
I wonder: does your electric ZENN have the cutout in the rear bumper where the tailpipe would go?

The body of the car is based on the Microcar MC-2, which is made in France. The ZENN people ordered about 600 unpowered 'roller' MC-2's and then outfitted them with the electric running gear in St. Jerome, QC. Regarding your photo of the red car, that is [either a gas or diesel] MC-2 as red was not a color ever offered for a ZENN. If you look closely at your photo, there is a tailpipe sticking out from the left side of the plastic rear bumper.

I've often thought that a good car setup for our family would be two cars, a NEV and an ICEV. Either that or just one vehicle that's a plug-in hybrid.
Since we live in a small town that's just a few miles from end to end, and when we need to go out of town it's usually somewhere between 70 to 200 miles with an ocasional 600 mile or more trip.
I used to be on top of the news about Zenn Cars and the EEstore and their EESU. Sad that all turned out to be a hoax.

2008! A Zenn was made a few years ago to go much faster, but I think darn near everything electrical fried. Appeared on Craigslist in 2018 for under $1000 in AS-IS non running condition.
