Another personal best yet again...
I just filled up the tank tonight with a total of 395 miles to the tank, which in turn means I got 35.9mpg! About two months ago before joining here, I was only averaging 270 miles to a tank and 26-27mpg. That's a huge increase just by changing my driving habits.
Anyway, that's about it for now.

I drove from my house in Buffalo, NY to Hybridfest in Madison, WI, stopping at my sister's house in north-central Indiana on the way. I documented my mpg carefully on the best leg, the 457mi drive home from her house to mine.
Instead of taking the interstate from my sister's house to the Ohio Turnpike, I took the back roads. It was an interesting change of pace, and it cut that leg from 101mi to 85mi without taking any additional time. I got 88.8mpg for 85.9mi on that leg.
To me, that's FAR more impressive than the 98.2 mpg (plus some Wh/mi) I got in the FE competition in Madison under nearly unusable driving conditions, or even the 140-something mpg the winner got with his super-low-speed P&G with little regard for tailgaters and stop signs.
Here's a picture of me having my cake and eating it too. That's 144mi of the Ohio Turnpike at 65-74mph (mostly 70mph) without dropping out of lean burn. Windows up on a fairly warm day.
The 72mpg, high-mph solution I ran in the hills of PA/NY dropped me below 80mpg for the day.
Other data from the long weekend:
Buffalo to northern IL with an overnight stop in Indiana: 9.725gal, 708.0mi, 72.8mpg
From there to Hybridfest and back to my sister's house in Indiana: 7.106gal, 493.9mi, 69.5mpg
Totals for the long weekend: ~30 hrs door to door, 1658.9mi, 22.65gal, 73.2mpg.

It'd be great if people made a habit of including speed info with MPG info as a rule of thumb.
It's the one big piece of the puzzle that helps other people put the MPG numbers in context.

Second trip to work and home using Scanguage:
To work: 41.9 mpg
Home: 41.2 mpg (trying harder, but uphill)
Nearly Stock 2001 ZX3 (manual)
-Cold air intake
-Sticky Michelin Pilot AS+ tires on 17" wheels at 40/41 psi
-.75 inch dia. rear anti-roll bar
-Mobil 1 synthetic oil
-89 octane fuel
-I realize most of the above should reduce mileage
Commute is 61 miles each way combined country roads and highway
55-65 mph on highway and 40-55 on winding country roads
Air temperature was in the mid 90s
Coasting and very gentle acceleration makes a big difference
The car does not really need to slow down for corners due to the tires.
Didn't actually piss too many people off either.
Before the using scangauge I was getting 33-34 mpg on a tank and thought it was great.
I am really impressed with this little car, and the scangauge.

I did a 15mi trip in charge depleting mode, mostly on the highway at 60mph. I made very good use of my charge, using it to get in to lean burn earlier and hold it up inclines. I also tried out a few miles at 125-150mpg, using assist to hold my speed. It doesn't feel like an efficient use of a charge, since it makes the ICE too lightly loaded.
I've done this route before at 100mpg while deep cycling only my 12V battery, so I was confident I would beat that today. Unfortunately, my SoC gauge jumped from 3 bars to 1 bar about a mile from home, which means the ECU insists the engine stays on and is used to charge the battery back up to 4 bars. I hit the HV disconnect switch to stop it, but that meant I couldn't really do engine off at stoplights.
I ended with 98mpg plus 1KWh. Not bad, but it's clear I'm not going to match Peter Perkins' >125mpg(US) PHEV Insight, with its 5KWh pack. In the absence of traffic, and managing my SoC better, I'm sure I could hit 110mpg on a 15mi trip.

I pumped my 250th tank of gas into my Scion xA on the 30th... I have keep a record of every tankful! (Not all are entered in my garage, though.)

The car was heavier because it was carrying a load, so maybe it coasted farther. Maybe I'm 15 months better at this. Beyond that, I really don't know.

I guess I could drive at an average speed of 20 MPH or less, but I might not survive the road rage from others who just would not understand my motives.
Most of my average speeds are in the low to mid 30s or higher. In some cases over 60 average.
While I care a lot about mileage, I think averaging between 50-55 MPh and getting 70 MPG is quite an accomplishment. While the car I used to do that is gone, I have a bike that will do that. My new car will probably never be competitive as far as highest mileage or highest percentage over EPA ratings, I enjoy driving it more than almost any car I have ever owned.
After 45 years of driving and over 200 cars, isn't that what its really all about.
Not to the point of disregarding mileage at all. My new car will probably average better mileage than the 59 Austin Healey Sprite did in the summer of 1968, but if I get in an accident, in spite of my best efforts to avoid one, my odds of surviving without injury are probably 1000 times greater.
